vajo Posted October 9, 2019 Report Posted October 9, 2019 I hope someone of the board had won this auction. It was sold for $308 unbelivable. https://www.ebay.de/itm/Japanese-SAMURAI-SWORD-HIGO-sukashi-Tsuba-nbthk-Papier-/233359288202?ul_noapp=true&nma=true&si=poA%252B9A7A8prMJnXgqfTb7sOQPE4%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Quote
lonely panet Posted October 9, 2019 Report Posted October 9, 2019 I would say the price was low due to the sellers notorous reputation, which would have put most buyer from the NMB off Quote
Bazza Posted October 9, 2019 Report Posted October 9, 2019 Hmmm, Hozon paper is the Bee's Knees, desu ne??? Therefore independent of seller, desu ne??? BaZZa. Quote
Curran Posted October 9, 2019 Report Posted October 9, 2019 I haven't followed eBay in ages, but stumbled across that auction and was following it. The seller does have a pretty harsh reputation, even among his friends. I toyed with bidding, but considered the reputation and other factors- and did not bid. Still $308 was a cheap buy for a Kamiyoshi tsuba. The papers are from 2014 when the NBTHK fittings team had that Higo lobotomy and was reduced to calling everything "Higo". It would paper slightly better now. 1 Quote
Brian Posted October 9, 2019 Report Posted October 9, 2019 Very likely the high bidder was not "completely independent" and it was not let go of at that price 3 Quote
vajo Posted October 9, 2019 Author Report Posted October 9, 2019 I got a mail, the Tsuba was sold to a honorable member of this board. Well done. Congratulation from my side. Quote
Brian Posted October 9, 2019 Report Posted October 9, 2019 Wow....I'm impressed. That was a great deal. 2 Quote
Surfson Posted October 9, 2019 Report Posted October 9, 2019 Hopefully it is delivered! Congratulations to the new owner. What a great deal. Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted October 10, 2019 Report Posted October 10, 2019 Seller SkyBirthday usually has a mix of VERY cool items with some mines thrown in. But to my knowledge if sold, he delivers, so not one of those fake self bidder types. Quote
Brian Posted October 10, 2019 Report Posted October 10, 2019 Is that some sort of autocorrect of the name Showa22? 1 Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted October 10, 2019 Report Posted October 10, 2019 Sorry Brian, had this thread mixed up with another one. Quote
Curran Posted October 10, 2019 Report Posted October 10, 2019 Sorry Brian, had this thread mixed up with another one. Skybirthday has a similar one with 'Higo' papers up at the moment. J- just got his wires crossed. The two tsuba are not the same, but my opinion is that Skybirthday does get some shilling in to goose it along. He has some good stuff, but I have recognized more than a few of his pieces as having recently been with various online and not online dealers, so I don't know whats his story. I have had email contact with him, over a tsuba he sold me 'with papers', but he shipped the tsuba and later told me the owner of the tsuba [not him] had lost the papers. Just for comparison, let us see how this Yahoo! tsuba does vs the bargain someone got off ebay. Off to the races. This one probably goes higher. [5 beers, because it is October] 1 Quote

PietroParis Posted October 13, 2019 Report Posted October 13, 2019 Hi All, Inspired by this thread, I set out to find my own moderately-priced papered tsuba on ebay. As often happens in auctions, I got a bit carried away and ended up paying more than I had originally planned. What do you think, is this still a decent deal? Cheers, Pietro 1 Quote
kissakai Posted October 13, 2019 Report Posted October 13, 2019 Nice tsuba with papers which to me is a good deal - Well done 1 Quote
vajo Posted October 13, 2019 Author Report Posted October 13, 2019 Matzu-katze has often very nice pieces. I think you made a good deal. 1 Quote
PietroParis Posted October 13, 2019 Report Posted October 13, 2019 Thanks for the encouraging words! I will post more pictures and ask questions as soon as I receive the tsuba. Cheers, Pietro Quote
Katsujinken Posted October 13, 2019 Report Posted October 13, 2019 Absolutely. Under $400 with NBTHK papers? No brainer if the piece appeals to you! Congrats. 1 Quote
