Ken, It is already a while ago and I almost forgot about this “project”. If I remember well, it is like John said, as so often the case with Japanese books on armor (and related). However, I can hunt up the old correspondence and look over it again, if interested?!

Hi John, I bought this book by chance, some years ago. After a short discussion with Markus about a translation, we decided to let it be. It simply contains too little useful information, related to the estimated costs.....
  4. “昭和十九年十二月” December Shōwa 19 (=1944)
  5. I can be wrong, but looks like: “天満天神宮(泰?)細願主作(州 another spelling)津山住.....” and “正徳弐年....” Now I’m too ???? to go on!
  6. Have some parts together like "Tenma Tenjingû..?.. (Hoso Ganshu?) Sakushû Tsuyama Jû..." and "Shôtoku Ni Nen..." etc, but not the whole, till yet...
  7. I´ll try to make a picture. Give me some time...
  8. Indeed! I have one, registered as number 1197 in “Wakamatsu” around that time.

    Tsuba Mon

After consulting my mon-books, I came up empty handed. Might be a variation of orange blossom (tachibana 橘), but I’m in doubt if it’s a mon at all?!
  10. Probably “Maru Ni Nami”. Waves in a circle?!
  11. “Yokogawa” (横川). Not a mon I guess, but might be a family name.
  12. Yes, I would read it the same way!
  13. I think, "Goto Mitsuaki + Kao"(後藤光晃)!
  14. As Jean said “奈良”. Reads simply “Nara”!
  15. Interesting “kanji sheet” Morita san, thank you!
  16. Thought at first the third could be “括” ...... handwriting = headache ????
  17. ????
  18. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/12684-gendaito-ota-chikahide/
  19. Yep, also beyond me.
  20. Hard to read! First is indeed “上”. But second seemingly don’t correspond with a province. So maybe a another name? There are also two small kanji down left Piers “冶小”???
  21. Yep, same as “安芸” (Aki province). Steve, is ““芸” a simplification of 藝” ?
  22. First character looks a bit more “佑” to me. But who knows.....?
  23. Might be “光永作” (Mitsunaga saku).

    Possible good one

Jon, It reads “Akimoto-shin” (if I’m not wrong) and means, “retainer of Akimoto”. Akimoto Tsunetomo was the Daimyō, who hired Masahide at the age of 25.....etc.
