Excellent type of this kind Luca! i have seen maybe 4 or 5 yet in my hands.... ( well, you should know that NBTHK those years- did post a lot of questionable attributions in their´s "essayes" -(do better head you for the older "attributions"....!!!) ( if you do concern certifications )- after the 90´s there has ben a massive declination in regard to/of authentifications of Tosogo.... 2cents to this thematics.... 2000 Dollars to your´s Tsuba! ( very nice! and equally very rare to find these days now!) ( i had a friend who keenly did collect them! he would ( if still alive) pay you what i write....) Christian ( a very nice! exemplaire here....definitely!) my very honest congratulations!
-
i do recognise some of these Tsuba.... you should not longer collect in such a high amount i think.... having seen so many Tsuba now...and having had the opportunity so to equally study them.... you should try to find a way for your´s own personal taste, study and professionality....( well, least, this is what i did decide me long years ago already...) ( i but did start equal like you describe on your´s pictures and words...so no worry! ) i did sort me out of this resulting mess- finally- in looking for only one example per school or tradition..... i did choose each time the one which did attract me most....( those i kept) rest gone, beye-beye..... ( this is the first step you should go in finding calm and passion again...) ( a very nice and multiple collection indeed Grev! Congratulations! ) Christian

(if no further pictures available ?) 3.- clean! no Talkum or other dirt sniping the Tagane/ Cisel of its mei..... and!....then!( just then! !) do let us have a eventually looking forward onto putting a blade to something.... ( a closeup picture of its Boshi may be of certain help, very certainly, too!) ( Ura and Omote please! never forget!) ( this is both sides of the swords point! Kissaki...) Christian -

Dear Krystian, i think you are pretty right in reading these Kanji as " Kane-Sada". however, i think, this is not a legit mei! i have seen a couple of Kanesada ( school and master) Tsuba in past.... non of them did show such a bad quality of its iron! equally, each mei on the original ones showed strong and individual punchmarks of the cisel. so far...? be cautious! Christian

I had wished you better Benjamin! but well ??? who knows??? maybe next time ? ! i do wish you the best! Christian
-
Dear Benjamin, some further pictures would certainly be of help here in this ( very nice! my own opinion only) Tsuba! so maybe? some pictures from its omote and ura side ( taken under natural condition, and not in such "hard" "academic" looking on its white backround photo-) plus, of course, one or two pictures taken from a sideview perspective....? possible? a nice and indeed interesting Tsuba! if ? it should sort out in equal quality on its backside and sideview...? even better! i am confident!....it looks least very promising! Christian

Hi John hope this helps in your´s request...? Todays Kinko/ Goldsmiths Shakudo in Japan should have a percentuage of about 3-5% of Gold. Muromachi times Shakudo varied between 3-7% Shibuichi is split into following three subs. -shiroshibuichi ( white) 40-50% Cu, 60-50% Ag (resulting into a highgrey to silver colouration after finnish) -namishibuichi ( standard ) 75% Cu, 25% Ag ( 3:1 ) -kuroshishibuichi ( black) 75% Cu, 22% Ag, 3% Au ( the common in latter Edo ) Christian

very simple! a closeup from Omote ! and a closeup from the Ura! side. plus/ if available? a closeup from different ankles of its ( execution of) mimi ( Tsuba ) or in Tosogo ( cut out / filemarks of its rim) ( in Tsuba, filemarks may equally indicate...such, it is importent so to observe the inner Sukashi cut and file minutiously filed Sukashi walls. Of course!, too!) ( this is but more relevant on to more contemporary bulk produced Tsuba / Stilism of Motif of course.....typically Edo to late Edo.....and so on.....) in earlier Tsuba you had to pronounce on the surface treatment of course.... AND HERE WE ARE ! me

Tosa Myochin plus Subgroup did not forge such!
-
this is a latter Ohno ( or Ono ) guard.( Owari ). begin of Edo ( roundabout 1620+) very good and seldom! well done! Christian
-
Hi Andrey, maybe i can be of help ? in my humble opinion it is not a Akasaka-school Tsuba you do show here. I rather do point it to the Tosa Myochin. Reason i have had several good early till latter generation Akasaka school Tsuba myself in my collection- and i had equally several Tosa Myochin Tsuba in my collection in past- plus, i have seen many Akasaka Tsuba here in Europe.....( you should know that especially here in Europe, there are a very lot of collectors focusing themself on this school and its stilistical expression) the reason i do not see your´s exemplaire as Akasaka lineage piece are multiple. The stilism ( for a late piece like your´s here ) is very simplified and does not show individuality ( like we do know it from the latter Akasaka masters or students) The whole expression is much too fixed and forced! ( not fluid- do compare your´s 3th picture above - where you can see a certain vivid and "free" execution. The execution- cut outs and smoothening of the Sukashi-walls is not the quite typical to see smoothening the Akasaka mainschool and latter students did execute. The mimi is to bolt in comparison to the walls of the Sukashi work. ( this, only very seldom was case in the Akasaka school- and i personally have seen it on very parallel / maybe geometrical stilisms only- this is a but rather seldom to find exception! especially in those latter Guards )- such speaking- this does not "fitt" to the your´s more lavishly and "free" stilism ( copy ). The stilism of this plant, branches, myoga or else ??? - motif is forced and without character- here again, please do compare it with your´s beautiful Tsuba in picture 3. The Iron looks O.K. to me- the patination dito ( you should know that it is sometimes very tricky to get good light and pictures by cameras ( least me here, i can say i do do me very hard in taking least marginale working pictures with a camera )- to see a patina in live is definitely a completely other story then vaguing ideas just by a photo....not? So here, sorry, i can not be of help to you under these circumstances..... As i but already wrote- it´s iron and forge looks good and it is a typical Tosa Myochin piece in my eyes..... so well.....maybe i could be of help to you ???? ( ah yes- i forgot...your´s red dot motif seems to be a kind of flying bird motif like we do know it from so many other Tsuba schools equally- just a more modern "freelance" workout so to fit to the total image it shows ....) Christian
