  1. i do not like your´s question!
  2. Chris there are some metallurgical analysis done and equally published..... i will have a look.... (just for the beginning into this, i do hard recomment you so to read the articles published in JSSUS about "steel" and refinement of iron ores - written by Mr. (? forgot his name) Prof. Cauthino) just Google for this....those were online available, least some time ago... if not longer online ?- do PM me and i´ll throw you the essayes via PM as i did safe me this material on pdf (somewhere).... Christian
  3. it somehow does remind me so to read old posts from good old John here.... ( And!- he was right!- of course!)
  4. the Metropolitan Museum does provide plenty of excellent books for free! do have a look on theirs webside! ( old topic- this thematics is known) Christian
  5. i do very heartly recomment this project and the following publication done by Grev! a LOT! of material here...some very rare design stilisms, some very rare to see motive and expression done by these Tsubashi thosetimes...and also some really well (excellent) forged early to mid Edo period Tsuba herein. In sum- everyone, may the focus be on old iron?- or on Kinko?- will very certainly be happy with this amazing mess of material published herein in this book.... i really hope the museum will display some of these Tsuba in future... makes pleasure for shure !
  6. just did some more research.... Congratulations! Nothing to complaint!....as i said...
  7. so "here" we are now? how about mine call to putt this Tsuba) to the Hikone school and tradition ...? ( this is a somehow,to ben tittulatet "small" - but still very respectet "derivate" school with a lot of influence done for...( others).... - not a main or "standard" school per see!... a small tipp and just a research worthwile,- ...LOL! well done John ! - again!... ( nice Tsuba!) ( love it!) ( no joke!)
  8. i somehow do like it i confess.... rather but by its taste....not by its beauty, i confess. but: Every artist dips his brush in his own soul- and does paint his own nature into his own pictures...not? Lustiges Kerlchen! ( funny piece indeed!) ! Christian
  9. O.K. ! ( mea culpa!).... so let us wait... (jbw. reclusement is not acceptet )....if so ?....do throw me a ball if T2(damaged one) of #1 will ben available) Christian
  10. i personally do much prefer the #1 here....very nice! but? shure with rice?......i rather tend for branches of a Persimmon tree here....(would fitt to the school and tradition, as this area they do come from, even todays, is crowded with phantastic old and beautiful persimmon trees and alleys...) ? a lovely set indeed! Christian
  11. so up from now one does "smell" you before one does sight you ? second and agree...nice job here! Christian
  12. comparing this with the Chinese or Japanese/Korean tradition of minutiously done research and metalwork is somehow ( least i do understand it as this...)-comparing a first 1911 to a Glock 21 of the 3th Generation....( you do mention a Astra pistol- so i just allow me to dare a play with your´s wording here) sounds like "comparing apples and eggs " certainly... well? ....despite you follow the way of the idiot ?....least, this does proof to the expert ( like here in your´s mentioned video) nice to see such experts.... (providing theirs knowledge ). i do not know.?...i just am a simple stupid and bancrupt collector ! what else?....there are but experts for Luck! such do not blame me.... ! Christian
  13. a PRIME Yagyu is no match here Ed! we are discussing about lousy modern stuff... me
  14. if you do by hazzard find one ( antique) ?.....please do let me know about immediately.... Laugh!
  15. i do equally not think this piece is antique. Akao school Tsuba generally do show a strong symbolism and coherence to the cut out sukashi motif... this "point" got seemingly overexaggeratet by this modern "Hyper-Hyper taste" dubious sellers from Japan do hope for..... not old- Christian
  16. if it hadn´t ben tripottet....( what shall this Kissaki represent i honestly do ask myself ).....i still would be cautious.... hmmmh???? ( agree with an former post-commentaire here.....me, too....i have seen it better...+ cheaper if we do calculate additional occuring fees on the lot) Christian
  17. Hamano do compare the latter ones... Christian
  18. i just can tell and speak from past.....actually do not know how the present "habitude" is going on ?.... normally.. (prewar custom was in old times)- on old boxes, you do see the writing ( attribution-LOL!) on inside of the cover one, together with an seal....(most times in red ink...several times in blue or brown ink colouration) to beware you but from spending too much money... such has got nothing to do with any slightest significance! so! do keep the box ( to its Tsuba)- only IF!!! there is a seconding origami to this whole ensemble...( most times but, the " origami" is but !??? - missing... )-LOL! otherwise (?) - just very simple..do throw it away! Christian
  19. hmmmh... since long a new addition here ( if you shall get rid of it ???? ( such things sometimes shall happen! i hear... ) - DO LET ME KNOW! Christian
  20. this is sad to read! my condolences to relatives and family. and again one serious collector passing away this time.... " Death, the only immortal who treats us all alike, whose pity and whose peace and whose refuge are for all- the soiled and the pure, the rich and the poor, the loved and the unloved. " (Mark Twain)
  21. coooool ! great collection Stephe a barrel for you! Chris
  22. yepp Peter. they are more then just down! a shame..... Christian
  23. excellent Tsuba here Rich! my very honest congratulations! ! it does start..... to Matt...as it is your´s post here... i sorrowly have to second Grey´s and Rich(e)´s comment so far. do buy books first!- do try to see old and good collections (- and collectors!) first- ....do study! ( in the books!)... ( before "wasting" your´s hard earned money!) me
