read and thought about.... sounds nice- is but not workable....( in theoretics yes- in practice no way- as you do loose forcefully clients to pay you if working this way...) Christian
-
i would definitely not bid on this Tsuba Dito! and yes, such is rather very untypical -especially on rather out "of the bunch" Tsuba.... this is definitely not a high quality work...LOL! ( of course...such extravagances do certainly exist...such extravagances but equally are rather preserved to the very latter Kinko-Tsubashi only...) Hmmmph...who knows what happened here ??? Maybe a decoration for furniture like it was traded in the 1860´s to Europe ???? Christian

well, yes and no in fact.....but not forcefully! sometimes you do also have Shu-mei attribution ( red lacquer signature ) ( 銘朱漆 ) - In this case there is also a Kao (花押) most times...( also in red lacquer ) ( generally least- as i have seen also Kin-zogan with a red lacquer-seal already. I would not give that much importence generally.... depending on the collectors-branch / individual collector such is generally speaking not really reliable to get fixed on it....as we did learn not only from Tosogu, but equally from Katchu. signed in- hopefully to see and discuss... -
Wisdom of the crowd - which tsuba do you like the most?!
christianmalterre replied to rkg's topic in Tosogu
i personally do like Tsuba no. 4 most.... however, i would better bring the Owari no.1 for your´s show then... ! -
i confess i do like your´s attribution! however, the cutting edges do not really congrue to Umetada....least speaking to to first two generations... ( did you look for the sandai ? - in the Umetada Taikan....???) " ( i do only have the NBTHK version of the first twoo....the Taikan about Umetada-Den Tsuba is worlds better! i but not longer have it here....) ( Jesper or Dan should but have it ? they both may maybe read this? and can help you? ) " i do fully agree- composition is it, equally the open space and the general execution. Tsuba´s general shape is unfortunately "considerably" worn- such speaking i can not date it....( needs restauration) most probably ( if ? Umetada-den ) then latter.... ( due the lack of the typical smoothened carving) or Choshu... which is equally good...but not Umetada den, of course... eitherway... a nice exemplaire - well done in studying it! ! worth to study it further...i do like it! cast ??? from where do you point this assumption Gentlemen ? ( your´s expertee´s knowledge perhaps? ) ( LOL!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i personally do not see any sign of a cast iron here. . maybe worn, stumped and aged by patina... ( all right! ) - but cast ???? ( you do by force need further study it seems me.... ! Grey( yes! Grey the book one Grey!) for luck! does offer excellent books! ( where, by the way, this very Tsuba is inside... a published one from a once former British collection!...) well....

do better "surch" for Sake or Whisky these times.... no need, equally no force for "him" so to forge, nor to sign schoolars anyway.... same like the Suishinshi... Yomon was the last one providing good forge... Not ? ( Naotane school ! ) Christian
-
Laugh! ! just great Stephen !
-
despite the fact they look like Tom wrote above ( i agree ) you ruined everything which would eventually give a feeling of age and naturally grown patina. Bravo! they look like plastic! Christian

Beautiful tsuba, but who is Touryuusai? is it a modern tsuba?
christianmalterre replied to terminus's topic in Tosogu
it is with very certain "unquestion" a nice Tsuba. It´s work is well and nice done. It is worth the asking price! ( be it Soshin or Gimei ) so many complaints about nothing! -
Robin, i do confess i do not know at all! This is indeed a fascinating Tsuba! I never had such seen in all those various collections i saw-nor did i have the possibility so to study such yet..... from points evaluating its age.....i think, this is maybe older then the seller who sold it to you told you about....Edo yes....but early.( maybe Kanbun ? ) The overal taste of its arangement and execution of Seppa-Dai and Hitsuana clearly suggest a rather earlier piece here....Dito the shape of Hitsu-Ana and the cut-out and punch marks.... The iron is very good! Equally its general preservation..... This Tsuba got well cared in its past history. A good sign! A nice Tsuba! my honest congratulations and a happy Birthday to you! ! maybe some more higher resolution pictures would revail more details ? answer enough....
-
i think i have seen it also somewhere in past..... here on the board, i hard guess..... do let the Kinko Front head forward.... (i am far off to collect or even take my time with Kinko....sorry) Brian is but right in his first thought i guess.....seems known and spoken about already.....i just do know i have seen it already. me
-
where is the "spitting" smily Brian ? Kanayama of course! what else! ( jbw- how many times? i do already repeat me ???? ) Mr. Grey Doffin ( bookseller, collector himself, member here, known....) does offer a very minutiously and well choosen "bunch" of reference-( sorry for this word)- of literature! why not heading? am personally much more keen on this Cappuccino! looks still very impressive! ( maybe? a magic potion) i have to bid now! ( on the Cappuccino of course!) -
Hi Uwe, could be right ? i had no look yet.... John can but easily do research for himself- this collection is still online so far i am aware......i but did not check this yet, either. Christian
-
unquestionable- a nice find! John the Nobumasa mei seems me equally in the Aotsu Yasuju collection if i am not wrong here ? (Sukagawa Museum collection ) Christian

As Jean did post it out already...."Maybe, Maybe not; it May or May not, whatever the pun, it will happen". i had this all thematics in last 2 months myself....finally did refuse so to sell a pair of menuki a British collector did want to buy- equally but had to cancel some buy i was willing me to purchase from Britain..... this all is eitherway not thrustworthy any longer for me.... Stupid Politicians running around Westminster, not knowing what to do is sign enough for me! i did shut this door, least for myself....may i sleep more calm in future. Christian
