    Armor Maker Interview

    Yep!
  2. Thanks! But also like Steve, I couldn’t find anything... ????
  3. “芳” can also be read as “fusa”, but I’m afraid that doesn’t help......
  4. Might be “重芳作”?
  5. Guess you got it! ........“First month Shōwa 19” Oh, beaten by Mark
  6. Neither do I, unbelievable........Thank you Morita San!
  7. As Ian said.....
  8. "Yoshū" ("Iyo") I assume.
  9. John, What about the last four kanji on the nengo.......“Usukura Narukiyo”??
  10. Yep, I think the same who signed also with "Yamashiro no Kuni Fushimi-jū Kaneie". Or at least very similar......
  11. Hi Ken, judging maedate might be tricky. Plenty of “modern” replicas on the market! Real Edo period pieces are quite rare. So like Malcolm said, pics necessary.....!
  12. I think I read “山城國西陣住埋忠”. Not sure, though....
  13. Yep, "Kaneie"!
  14. ......slipped in the wrong colum while posting. Sure "Sane". Thanks Ray!
  15. Stephen, do the two strokes on the bottom not pointing more towards "sada"?!
  16. Nengo is the „Imperial era“ counting system, starting at Jinmu!
  17. Half of the answer (if not all) is above
  18. ....or “Arikatsu”?!
  19. Ah, "Echizen no kuni Kanetane". Interesting, never saw this on an nakago before....
  20. Hello Aleksandr, I think I saw a similar helmet once before, but can't remember.....or my grey cells teasing me?! Anyway, it's a simple bowl, a bit out of shape at the front (not unusual for nerigawa constructions). 3 lame leather shikoro of low quality (as the bowl itself). Ukebari and shinobi-no-o are new and parts of the lacquer seems "redone" (urushi or not). So someone certainly had his hands on this piece. Probably a Bakumatsu thing?! The hanbo shows some repairs and dates from the Edo period, IMHO.
  21. I would imagine, that running a serious study group on social media might be difficult and a lot of work for an moderator.......despite iron kote!
  22. Ah, I see. Thanks guys!
  23. Hi Pete, as said before, only a few b/w pics (...of bad quality) are shown in the book. In the text, however, you can find "all" the armorers who made tsuba as well. Some entries also mention the way how the smith usually signed his work.
