  1. It reads "Schigemune". Probably Kawakita Shigemune (川北重宗). Allegedly an Aizu Myochin smith, but I have my doubts.....
  2. Hi Piers, just noticed that you got a similar present. Congratulations! Seems I have to reread your book, Jan......????
  3. Looks like “濃州関住 服部正廣 作”, “Noshu Seki jū Hattori Masahiro saku”.

Hi Justin, if you really want to “rescue” such blades (which I often did, when I collected swords, if it was possible at all), you should ignore the financial part of the game...???? It’s not a thing of plus or minus, it’s for the swords sake! My goodness, how histrionic.....I’ve simply burnt some bucks this way. On the other hand, it felt good to saw some swords brought back to live instead falling into oblivion or ending up as a tool, or so (with a fate clearly destined).????
  5. A pleasant read....keep going!
  6. Ray is spot on! Nice Kozuka...
  7. You both are right. I was so focused on the mei...... BTW, found a men with a similar (spiral) feature Ian! Will have a look next month, when I´m in Berlin again for a little "menpo project".....
  8. I feel the same Ian.....saw it somewhere, but where?? Ok, back to the books....
  9. .....tend to agree with John!
  10. Thanks for the pictures Edward! There is a guy "Tomoyoshi", mentioned in the Meikan, who chiselled his nijimei characters so close, that the two kanji apearing as one for the untrained beholder...... Furthermore one can find some more similarities with the mei in question.....have a look at page 133! Here is another example:
  11. Still no clue (although sure, that I’ve seen it before...). May we have some pictures of the menpo itself Edward?
  12. Jean, actually 1854 = first year Ansei, so you have to add only 6 years
  13. If it is "Ansei 7" ("安政 七"), shouldn't it be 1860 and the matching Zodiac date "Kanoe Saru" ("庚申")?
  14. Hi Bruno, it can also be read as "Garyô" (a name, connected with Yasuchika VI.). No clue if it makes any sense......
  15. Hmm... first two left side "雅良" ??
  16. Steve is right! I should have looked more carefully...
  17. “Gotō Denjō” + Kao, like BaZZa suspected (I assume)?! Legit.....???
  18. First glance (in a hurry) "Bitchu no Kuni jū Tsuguyoshi saku".....guess it's a Tachi!
  19. I also can (and will) vouch for Kelly. Great service!
  20. Thanks Jean Mei looks a bit “Yoshiomi” (義臣) to me?!
  21. Can you please sign your posts with your real name “sensei”?!
  22. “Narimasa” + Kao! Most likely Umetada school (if legit?!)
  23. „Nobumitsu“ I guess. So first kanji should be 信!
