Dear Dwain.

Not sure what you mean by recovery, do you mean restoration?  If so then ask yourself why a seller should have two very similar swords with strange shaped nakago both covered in nice fresh rust which seems to be uniform across the blade and nakago, both now in USA but from Japan.

When you have answered that one then your question probably becomes irrelevant.

All the best.

True. I thought that myself. Maybe it could have been hidden under a house for many years. Life's a gamble, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But at same time I was thinking maybe it was rusted on purpose

So I take it you're saying this person made it rusty like this on purpose to try and deceive ppl? I can understand that but what I really want to know is, can a sword this far rusted be fixed with a polish? Or is it too far gone? Yes to a restoration (I mean in general not this specific sword, just swords in similar condition)

Looks like a chinese sword laying in water. I don't think this is a real nihonto and it is not old.

Ok, that was my other thought. Someone basically made a popular style and rusted it on purpose to hide anything and make it look old?

That's pretty annoying that someone would do that. Thanks for reply

Take a Chinese sword and bake it in some rust-inducing chemical to create a fresh new lottery ticket. I find it amusing how one can basically discern a signature under the rust as if the fraudster left a piece of tap to keep the area from oxidizing.

It's interesting to watch how the Ebay fraud scene constantly evolves and renews itself.

This is interesting. I like that fraud.

10/10

IKR? Funny I was thinking same thing. Entire blade is horrible but yet the rust subsides only around the mei.

The more I think about this now, the more it's pissing me off.

I wonder what the seller has to say?

The dimensions look strange; the nakago is out of proportion, and the nakago ana seem to be too low. Rust seems forced and too uniform. Should polish out ok, but why?

I just looked at seller's other sale.......twins!

I am prepared to say this seller is an outright crook.
No doubt about it.
He has access to Chinese junk. See one of his last sales: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samurai-Sword-Naginata-/233047690488?_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true

That is one of the ugliest hamon I have ever seen. And he pulls the same nonsense about it being from the Japanese market. Really? Then where is a copy of the torokusho?
Here's one of his recent feedbacks: "this is a well made chinese reproduction blade not Japanese gendai as described"
Crook.

Both his twins will sell for around ~$200 each. :D Who are these people spending that money on this obvious junk? I'm as green as they come on Japanese swords still and all my red flags are waving furiously.

A fool and his money are easily parted.
