  1. Al , Check out Takayama To and I think the smith is Masahiro, but I am not a 100% sure at this time just a quick guess , I think it refers to anti rust steel and maybe who polished the blade ,but no doubt you will get the correct translation soon.
  2. all , it maybe nothing ,but i clicked on the link I my computer crashed !!
  3. not a cast iron guarantee but the red flag is it is not signed Tachi Mei, but there are always exceptions !!
  4. sorry, but it is a very obvious fake .
  5. Ryan, Sorry 1oo% Chinese sword , hope you did not pay much for it !! if so it's a steep learning curve into the Japanese sword world. If sold as a Japanese authentic sword, I would politely ask for your money back if possible.
  6. agreed it looks like a Chinese saya !!

    fuchi/kashira

I agree looks like modern reproduction , and I am not sure about the areas with, what looks black gloss paint ? sorry ,
  8. Hi Brandon The kuniyuki - Boshi, looks like it has had some work done on it ? but the photo is not very clear , just my first impression , but I could be wrong . also it is difficult to see, there is very little evidence of the mune -machi and ha-machi showing , again it just might be the poor photo of the tang but if not, it has had a lot of polishing in the past , and an old wives tale 2 character signature points maybe to a late koto blade , but again just an opinion ?
  9. Artem it looks like a Showa smith of the top of my head , signed ? ? kane mitsu saku , to be confirmed ?
  10. Artem sorry it does not look right to me mekugi-ana , looks in a odd position , kanji looks ?? without a better full picture of the blade , I suspect it is not Japanese , but maybe wrong ! need full shot of the blade etc.
  11. Hi Chuck politely please, remember to remove your finger prints from the blades , it is not recommended to handle the blades with your bare hands as you could leave a permanent finger print on the surface of the blade right above the habaki . you probably already know that
  12. I recommend you sign your posts as per board rules with at least your first name , so people can reply to you , you will get more answers soon re the date etc.. for sure .I
  13. looks like ? Osafune Sukesada to me at quick guess, to be confirmed , need the books to check the date on the reverse . sword looks very straight so could be in the kanbun Shinto era ??
  14. Tom if I remember rightly ? it was purchased by Tsuruta san from Aoi Arts
  15. Stephen I know I was trying to let him down gently just in case there was a barrage of it is a copy etc.
  16. to me looks like a copy made to look like a Japanese sword, most likely made in Borneo IMHO, not what you want to here I suspect , but if it is free no harm done !
  17. Sorry leigh , But at first glance at the poor photo's supplied , it looks like a Chinese copy i.e. it is trying to be Japanese , need better pics to be 100% sure.

    Tsuba -Help

Steve again many thanks for your input and I am glad you agree it is on the right track for the translation of the tsuba. you mention loose translation! but could that be because converting from your own language to English is sometimes just difficult to get the exact comparison or translation !

    Tsuba -Help

I have posted my tsuba on a friends face book page , and I got a response from a nice Japanese gentleman, suggesting the translation was , "yuuraku-dou " meaning, yuuraku is relax, no worry and enjoy one's self and Dou meaning a person living in a temple or people who like culture and art ! and he thought it might be of the kinai school ? any body think this is a correct interpretation of the translation .
  20. looks like it is signed Naga mitsu saku ww2 smith i.e. made by Naga mitsu,
  21. Slightly of topic, My understanding is in the Uk, if a weapon is confiscated or handed into to the authorities most would be destroyed , so somewhat surprised they actually put weapons' /swords up for public auction as they could potentially end up right back in the wrong hands , that said Georg I think you are a luck guy to own this one , IMHO it has great potential, good luck with it.
  22. Alex , thanks for your reply , In hand I would say the gold gilding is just slightly rubbed on the ura side in areas that have been handled , and to me it looks gilded not patinated but I'm no expert , I have not attempted to clean any of the crud of the Nanako etc. so it may look better after a light clean . either way I like the subject mater and design , and the cost , it was a good deal for me as far as I am concerned
  23. And a few more from me.
