  1. Name please it is the rules on the board , sorry but you need to invest in some books on the subject , before you venture down the road of buying Japanese swords , because like your previous post this is a Chinese copy ,
  2. Not a Tsuka but a pic of the tang , and not Japanese , do not waste your money on this ? just my two pence worth,
  3. Hi Russell, there is lots of help and advice available in the Uk , pending on where you live you could pop along to sword society meeting , Google To-ken society Uk
  4. Bruce / Dave, If you go to and old posting called , show me your High Class Gunto topic , you will see the whole sword and the previous translation , I think on page 3 NB_ you are correct it most likely means made in the vicinity of the Hachi-man shrine . Dave, we did meet a few years back at the DTI in 2016 , when you were with Paul Martin , . I was the tallest of the three Scotsman that day !!
  5. Does this count , a sword made by Naotsugu in the grounds of the Hachiman Shrine
  6. Luis , a possibly little hint of a Gimie signature from Jacques ?
  7. hi Steve handle ? is that not the tip of his shoe , I had to look 2 or 3 times to figure it out !
  8. A cast modern copy IMHO , but !
  9. I agree it looks like anti-rust steel looking at the tang, have you tried a magnet on the tang , if it is pure stainless steel it should not work , just a thought ! I have seen many swords on tables at antique auctions etc. arms fairs , it is not uncommon for someone to mix scabbards up and they end up sometimes in the wrong mounts .

    Tsuba -Help

just a heads up !! I was just going over an old post of mine, and when checking a link sent to the board re the possible translation for the meaning of " YU RAKU DO " my virus checker immediately blocked a TROJAN attack .

sorry , but it seems to be going down this road again.
  20. HI Michael, check for Ubu -Ba just above the cutting edge of the blade , just at the habaki , if it has an unsharpened flat area , more than likely a showa period blade , it is good place to start . I take it, the tang is not signed as you only show one side of the tang .
  21. Sorry all fakes , as already stated.
  22. in Tsuruta san's opinion , the sword dated from 1558-1570 , If I remember rightly the koto period finishes approximately about 1590 ! so if he is only 20/30 yrs out , I wish I could be that accurate when dating a blade. the sword for me , even with pictures supplied looks like an early Shinto period sword ! and I agree with Paul as to the possible date, I would also guess around the circa -1600-1650 , but what do I know .
  23. well managed to pick 3 Juyo out of the six I picked , more luck than expertise, but happy I got something, even if did pick no 22
  24. Stephen he is obviously saving the best one for the last show and tell
