sorry , but it seems to be going down this road again.
  8. HI Michael, check for Ubu -Ba just above the cutting edge of the blade , just at the habaki , if it has an unsharpened flat area , more than likely a showa period blade , it is good place to start . I take it, the tang is not signed as you only show one side of the tang .
  9. Sorry all fakes , as already stated.
  10. in Tsuruta san's opinion , the sword dated from 1558-1570 , If I remember rightly the koto period finishes approximately about 1590 ! so if he is only 20/30 yrs out , I wish I could be that accurate when dating a blade. the sword for me , even with pictures supplied looks like an early Shinto period sword ! and I agree with Paul as to the possible date, I would also guess around the circa -1600-1650 , but what do I know .
  11. well managed to pick 3 Juyo out of the six I picked , more luck than expertise, but happy I got something, even if did pick no 22
  12. Stephen he is obviously saving the best one for the last show and tell
  13. for me I like 3 - 18 - 20 -21 - 22 - basically I would have them all and is 22 - a Norishige and juyo ?
  14. Al , Check out Takayama To and I think the smith is Masahiro, but I am not a 100% sure at this time just a quick guess , I think it refers to anti rust steel and maybe who polished the blade ,but no doubt you will get the correct translation soon.
  15. all , it maybe nothing ,but i clicked on the link I my computer crashed !!
  16. not a cast iron guarantee but the red flag is it is not signed Tachi Mei, but there are always exceptions !!
  17. sorry, but it is a very obvious fake .
  18. Ryan, Sorry 1oo% Chinese sword , hope you did not pay much for it !! if so it's a steep learning curve into the Japanese sword world. If sold as a Japanese authentic sword, I would politely ask for your money back if possible.
  19. agreed it looks like a Chinese saya !!

I agree looks like modern reproduction , and I am not sure about the areas with, what looks black gloss paint ? sorry ,
  21. Hi Brandon The kuniyuki - Boshi, looks like it has had some work done on it ? but the photo is not very clear , just my first impression , but I could be wrong . also it is difficult to see, there is very little evidence of the mune -machi and ha-machi showing , again it just might be the poor photo of the tang but if not, it has had a lot of polishing in the past , and an old wives tale 2 character signature points maybe to a late koto blade , but again just an opinion ?
  22. Artem it looks like a Showa smith of the top of my head , signed ? ? kane mitsu saku , to be confirmed ?
  23. Artem sorry it does not look right to me mekugi-ana , looks in a odd position , kanji looks ?? without a better full picture of the blade , I suspect it is not Japanese , but maybe wrong ! need full shot of the blade etc.
  24. Hi Chuck politely please, remember to remove your finger prints from the blades , it is not recommended to handle the blades with your bare hands as you could leave a permanent finger print on the surface of the blade right above the habaki . you probably already know that
