  1. Hi Guys, this tsuba resides in Dublin and I bought it on the assumption it read Hidenao. All I have is the photo given. Could anyone agree or correct me? The eyes may have deceived me. John
  2. here is a pic of a published kokatchushi tsuba showing gorinto as well as wachigai. John
  3. Just keep it clean and it is a tsunagi for the kodzuka to slot into the koshirae. It would have to be special to warrant polishing. John
  4. I think he is sheltering under a tree. Perhaps an allegory with the tiger looking at the waves soon to wash upon his sanctuary proving some times a place of shelter is not a place of enduring safety. John
  5. I had 1500 euro on that Mitsuoki. Quality demands an high price. Most of this months funds gone on some oil paintings and some other tsuba or I might have gone higher. Too bad you missed out. John

    Mitsunobu

I just got this tsuba from Italy. I always wanted a good rendition of millet, a theme I appreciate. The really good stuff is stratospheric. This was reasonable. Sold as Fujiwara Mitsunobu. It reads, I believe Iyo kuni Matsuyama ju Fujiwara Mitsunobu. A Shoami school artist. Correct me if I'm wrong. John
  7. This tsuba is a typical Sansui style, perhaps Mito or Aizushoami. Rocks, foliage, water and mountains with wildlife and people common. Here is a Mito tsuba recently acquired for comparison. John Mito geese farmers.psd
  8. It worked for me. John
  9. Hello Gary, and...? Some views of the blade and its' activity would be nice. Have you just bought this or is it newly papered? Tell us more, please. John
  10. Please advise on how to purchase the Kamiyoshi tsuba, Barring world disaster I'll buy it. John
  11. Scroll down a tad and you'll see a chart and some of my coins related. They are collected, some expensive, but, not rare. John new_page_12.htm. (johnstuart.biz)
  12. I have learned to value the judgement of trained togi and whilst kirikomi are of little import, you do want to have your sword exhibit all of its beauty. It may require some patience, sending it to be assessed for polish will eliminate doubt. John
  13. All double my max. It seems a lot of disposable money around lately. John
  14. Hence the price. It says likely, and that makes sense for metalcrafters in the Meiji period had lost most business in tosougu. John
  15. I've some modest bids in. I usually don't make the cut. My pockets are not deep. John
  16. Just being a tiny part of the local lore is enough and I'll bet satisfying. John
  17. This is something that surprised me. I was not aware that Eijo made incense burners. The price is not exorbitant, especially when you consider there is a Myochin Munekatsu snake expecting 60 000 euro or more. 18. The greater curve just cuts in the slash better. As to the amount of curve, personal preference may come into play as well. Some European cavalry sabers are really curved the infantry sabers not as are some middle Eastern swords like the shamshir really curved while the yataghan is not. These are adapted for use, ahorse or afoot. John
  19. Yes, pronounced, not without comparative zori. John
  20. Yes, the first issue of the newsletter came out yesterday. I wish Paul every success with it and the greatest of luck with his coming procedure. John
  21. I especially like the idea of the gun safe being the internals. From where did you get the metal fittings? John
  22. There are a few types of iron sand of which akome and masa are closely related. Masa is used in keraoshi smelting whilst akome is used in the zukuoshi smelting. There is also river sand and beach sand ores. I do not know what sand ore they use but by the steel composition it has a low Ti % which is odd. John
  23. I see. aaaawhat are the new dates? John
  24. That okimono looks like it was carved yesterday. Perhaps Toshihara but to me just as likely Fu Yuan. By the way Fu 甫 can mean, ;just now'. John
