Bruce Pennington Posted July 21, 2019 Report Posted July 21, 2019 A beautiful custom gunto! I’ve never seen that pattern ashi before? Neil? Have you seen this? Quote
IJASWORDS Posted July 21, 2019 Report Posted July 21, 2019 Firstly, a damn nice Kai Gunto. Bruce , my (limited ) experience with Kai ashi is basically what I have , and most variations are in the heart shaped "boars eye" and how they are attached to the saya. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 21, 2019 Report Posted July 21, 2019 Well sorry everybody- after looking at a close-up, I realized the original up top is a boars eye, it just has a screw at the top of it which to my poor eyes on my small phone looked like a totally unique pattern. Sorry! Quote

PNSSHOGUN Posted July 22, 2019 Report Posted July 22, 2019 Can't ask for more with that one, the locking catch isn't seen very often either. 1 Quote
vajo Posted July 22, 2019 Report Posted July 22, 2019 Wow a really nice blade. Lots of chikei. This would be polished a stunning blade. The yasurime is very well executed. Congratulation take care of it. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 22, 2019 Report Posted July 22, 2019 I got to looking at the screws and it's clear the fitter put the screws in to keep the ashi from sliding/moving on the saya. Quote
David Flynn Posted August 13, 2019 Report Posted August 13, 2019 Chris S, I've looked over these photos many times, where did you see the Chikei? Do you mean Ashi? Quote
tbonesullivan Posted August 15, 2019 Report Posted August 15, 2019 Nice!!!! That really is a lovely blade. Definitely take care of it! Might benefit from a polish, but I don't know whether you would see an increase in value equal to the cost of the polish. But, it is really nice, so if you think it's a keeper, maybe it's worth it. It's in relatively good condition, so I would assume that they would not need to bring it back as much or address any geometry issues. Quote
16k Posted August 15, 2019 Report Posted August 15, 2019 Chris S, I've looked over these photos many times, where did you see the Chikei? Do you mean Ashi? I have a hard time seeing them too, but there may indeed be chikei near the habaki. Not sure though. Quote
