It seems allways a star stamped gendaito in these fittings. Great. Thats a fine sword Eric. Its a true nihonto not massed produced.
-
Nice tsuba. The decoration was later added.

Wow cool. Its rare indeed. Coud you show us pictures from the sword. And the Koshirae if it has one.

I was looking on the sword on that pictures. There are a lot of activity in the hamon. Its not a typical oil hardnend seki sword. Maybe made of mixed steel, folded and hand forged - quenched in oil yes. But really a nice sword with a beautiful inscription.

He made a new listing with new pictures. The sword looks really not bad. I like the gold/ yellow coloring of the menuki. That replica from poland and other replicas didn't have that. I'm on the side it is a real one too. But i`m personaly would not jump in based on my opinion I'm not 100% convinced.

I cant remember on this sword but last year i bought one of these 35xxx numbers and could give it back after PM discussion. Its allways that 35xxx. A well known US Nihontodealer had sold one with a similar look an 40xxx number. Same style. I don't know if its real or not. Haha maybe we had here the next PX wartime trophy issue 😀 like the kai gunto?

Someone would give an eye and an arm for those swords.

Arsenal Mark on RJT sword Fittings
vajo replied to george trotter's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Overall the design of a Type3, Type 100... wasn't new. Its a very old design. Its sad that so less old battlefield koshirae didn't exist. But we all know that the warriors of ancient Japan didn't go to a battle with gold and silver shining koshirae. They used simple and functional mountings mostly with iron fittings that didn't broke for a long time staying in battle. Someone here wrote the poor ashigaru often steal expensive swords from samurai. I don't know if it is true but its hard for me not to belive this. The type3 is in my eyes an excellent design, much better than a Type98. But the Type95 design is superior in my eyes for a war. Sometimes it has stoped a bullet -
Arsenal Mark on RJT sword Fittings

Thomas, Nick call himself a "not sword collector". So i don't know why we now have inflating words for a Type3 sword. - 1944 Naval Landing sword - Type 3 - Type 100 - Rinji Seishiki or - RS - Special Forces sword - Japanese Airborne sword Nick Komiya "And like Type 98s there naturally would be luxury versions and barebones versions even for a sword conceived as a poor man's version." RussM "1940 Army Contingency Sword" Nick Komiya " I thought "1940 variant" would be neutral enough"..."Kind of like introducing a stripped down version of a car as a "Sports" or "Rally" version." Now many say RS to a Type3 but if someone don't follow that discussion could not find out what RS means. If you want to sell such a sword and write "Selling a RS 1944 Gendaito" The guy would think - What? Btw. The type3 koshirae follows the design of a higo koshirae. -
This is such a great reference Bruce. Thanks a lot for your work.

Japanese Unicorn?

Dan that sword looks assembled together from parts and it is not Type3. The ito maki looks made by an amateur

My fault Dale. I took a deeper look on the picture and its banana. I was to fast with the first view 😃 Its a snail on the banana leaf. The Artist cuts the rips of the leaf so deep that it looks like a sago palm. But the trunk shows it's a banana.

Some woodprint pictures maybe help. It shows mostly a kikugata or mokogata tsuba. Without kogai and hitsu ana. like this one Kagamishi Tsuba for a Naginata? Tsuba should be small like a waki tsuba and not to heavy. I think.

Type95 swords get more and more a future investment. Who the hell want spent 20k bucks for a nambukucho tachi and when he wants to sell he got only 15k. Buy a Type95 for 700 and sell it for 2000 lol I will hold mine like gold oz.

The package looks like a truck was rolling over it. Incredible what they do with our sendings. Terrible. -
Can someone help identify this sword?
vajo replied to Misconstrued's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Strange pictures to show something. -
Congratulation George. A long way will come to an end. All the best!

Nakago ana looks not drilled. I'm sure it is an o-tanto. Nagasa 30cm. Shin-Shinto period.

These pictures are amazing. The first really good pictures from such a fake NCO. You see all the details. Negative same and Menuki. The false start of the Bo-hi, the thin and to long sarute, the flat sakura above the sarute, the thin habaki, the false edges of the seppa, the thin and to long clipper,...

I was fooled by such a sword from bad pictures. With a little luck I was giving it back to the seller. In this case it looks like a similar sword with nearly the same No. When you read the description it says that it is a replica. So the offer is honest. What is rare these times. Anmerkung: Es handelt sich bei der vorliegenden Waffe wohl um eine authentische Replika. Gesamtlänge: 92cm, Klingenlänge: 69,5cm
