  1. Not sure if it's bent, as much as off-axis.
  2. There is the answer, from NMB's Residnt Expert.
  3. Thanks, Grev!
  4. Thanks, Michael. Wonder why Mel makes it so difficult to find out anything about him? Nice Web-site, but I'd want to know who I'm dealing with.
  5. Some of us have been studying for decades, & we're still on a steep learning curve!
  6. Take photos, Juan, & meet as many people as you can. Golden opportunity.
  7. There would have been a lot more Bizen blades, except for https://markussesko.com/2013/03/12/the-great-flood-of-the-yoshii-river/
  8. I agree, but pulling out blades in the middle of that crowded studio probably wouldn't have been very smart.
  9. Very nice, Artur. Looks like it would fit my yoroi-doshi!
  10. Who owns that site, Peter?
  11. Ian, please get used to the fact that many, many blades are gimei. That's why you should always buy the blade, not the mei, unless you have kanteisho from NBTHK or NTHK. Even then, be careful.
  12. Bizen made the most blades, by far - an estimated 63%. Mino blades are next - an estimated 31%. The rest - Soshu, Yamato, & Yamashiro - are about 2% each.
  13. Great summary, Michael.
  14. I'd like to be able to confirm that the hada is masame, but I think I'm seeing an overose of uchiko, instead. Yes, Shinto, & that horimono is almost certainly placed so oddly to hide something.
  15. Yes, age is determined by the sugata, the shape of the blade. That is the first step in kantei.
  16. Nakago delaminations? On a shinsakuto? That's unusual. Are they only on one side?
  17. Yes, an insect. A cross would have an extension past the cross-piece.
  18. I'm sure that you know how we feel about Nihonto that are used in martial arts. I can't see any obvious damage, but I'm sure it's there. Iaito & shinken would serve perfectly well for iaido. Nice masame hada, & I'd like see more photos.
  19. I bought from him some years ago, but not a blade, for the reasons already posted.
  20. The functional purpose of menuki is to align the hands properly, so just about anything could be used.
  21. Welcome to NMB. Would you please sign with your first name, unless you'd prefer Tejada? We look forward to learning more about your interests.
  22. Luke, please add your first name in your Profile Signature so you don't have to remember for each post.
  23. That hamon might be tobiyaki or hitatsura. Have to see it to be sure.

    Tsuba

Stef, there were (& are) many tsubashi who weren't sword tosho. I don't think yours was a tosho, & thee's a short blurb on the Inagawa School on http://world.choshuya.co.jp/tousougu/index.htm
  25. Bjorn, my humble apologies! I pasted in the wrong URL on my last post. It should be http://www.nihontomessageboard.com/articles/Collecting.pdf You've got the right idea on that photo, but it has to be lots bigger (i.e., higher resolution) so we can see the details of the jihada & hamon.
