  1. Yes, always useful to see Before & After photos.
  2. True enough, Tom, but Aizu Shoami & Heianjo Zogan didn't have a whole lot in common, that I can think of. Ford?
  3. That is pretty strange.
  4. Bruno, sorry that I missed your post by a couple of days. Here are a couple of my Mokume tsuba:
  5. Never would have guessed that!
  6. Don't think I've ever seen a shikomizue signed on the wood.
  7. I've seen it, but I don't own the DVD. Very well done.
  8. My friend is the smart one, Brandon. It's the sister who is dumb as a stump.
  9. Sent info to my friend. Suggested they send it to me, so I can get more info, & even post it for sale here. Time to wait & see how dumb sister is.
  10. Thanks for the input. I assume it's worth more than a Big Mac, right?
  11. Doubt that sister will do much unless she has money in hand, Stephen. I'll see what my friend can do to her hands on the blade. Nothing we can tell from the photos?
  12. Nope. What you see is what I'm likely to get. The sister is not the brightest bulb on the tree, & was about to trade it for a McDonald's Big Mac, until my friend told her to hang onto it. So I doubt she'll be smart enough to do any disassembly.
  13. Excellent point on density, Jean. Too easy to forget physics.
  14. The sister of a friend in Los Angeles was hired to clean out the house of a deceased person, & to keep & sell any of the contents. She found the following sword, & since I know nothing about military blades, I would appreciate any info that I can pass to her:
  15. Wow! Never heard about that before.
  16. Wah, is the ring light an add-on? I've never heard of a Canon lens with built-in illumination.
  17. Mark, what are the chances that the show will go on, considering our wonderful pandemic?

Welcome to NMB, Gábor. Please introduce yourself in http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/27284-new-member-introductions/ so we know what interests you. And you can set up your signature in your Profile, too.
  19. Interesting, & much isn't at all what I've found in my studies.
  20. Yes, but only for tsuba. Never seen a kozuka with that lovely pattern. Good find!

Interesting observations, Ford. I had wondered about carving size versus age, but don't have enough examples.
  22. Please sign your first name on all posts, per Brian's rules, so we know how to address you. Red is active rust, & must be removed with antler or ivory to prevent further damage. Do not attempt any restoration on your own! Agree with Steve on most items. Third blade is obvious fake. First blade is real, Shinto period, & the reason you can't take photos of the hamon is that it's obscured by years of neglect. Second blade looks odd, to my eye.
  23. Mino is also one of the five Gokaden schools.
  24. I like the kissaki on that first shot. Sort of a hakikake effect.
  25. Grev, since you're using a camera, instead of a phone, I have to assume that you've already tried varying the DOF, right? The above setup looks great for "head-on" shots, but not sure how you would get any angled ones.
