  1. Yes, of course, JP, but think how that would have gone over with the millions of people who watch Pawn Stars. Audiences like a little mystery, not peol e screaming "FAEKE!"
  2. Probably selling better than ornate tsuba right now!
  3. Sounds useful. Wonder why we don't have it in the U.S.? BTW, thanks for the translation, John. Doesn't look like any Kyo-Kinko I've ever seen, either.
  4. Naff? I've heard someone say to "naff off," but figure it's not nice.
  5. That's exactly what I thought, Brian! It's wakizashi-size, too, & he seemed to be cramming as much onto the surface as he could get. Wait until you see how much he's asking for it, papered or not! https://www.ebay.com/itm/TSUBA-Japanese-Sword-guard-credibility-genuine-Antique-Original-limited-Kikka/114176467435 Hope someone will read the kanteisho.
  6. See what you can accomplish when you can't leave the house? Good job!
  7. Chris, you need a shot of the entire, completely-bare blade for sugata. The habaki hides useful info.
  8. I'm not familiar with this workmanship, & would appreciate ideas.
  9. Kind of wonder what happened to the yasurime. Yakidashi says ubu.
  10. With so many togari, not much question about Mino den. Chris can you take a shot with reflection down the length? Something about the hada looks familiar, but can't quite place it.
  11. Guido, do you think all blades from a school should have the same polish? Or only from the same tosho?
  12. Thus the rather low-ball price.
  13. I wonder if Darcy or RKG have high-resolution, well-lit blades in opposite polishes, preferably from the same tosho, but at least from the same school?
  14. I had a great time bottling up rye whisky at your Hellyers Road Distillery Last time I was in Tasmania, Date. Still have a bottle. Wish I could have spent more time - pretty place.
  15. Yes, welcome, Masahiro-san. There is an incredible depth of information on NMB, so take your time, & feel free to ask questions. We're friendly (at least, most of us).
  16. Agree, but for a different reason. Blade went to shinsa, & was judged as gimei, with the recommendation that the mei be removed, & the blade resubmitted. I've seen that happen several times. That's no guarantee that it will get kanteisho, though. Decent blad for the money.
  17. You're absolutely right, Malcolm, & I should have known better, as I wrote a long treatise on the brothers. Thanks for the catch. At least good blades ran in the family.
  18. So, it took an anvil to finally break a Kiyomaro blade!
  19. Great prints! Keep 'em coming.
  20. Nice job of reconstruction, Alex. An obvious labor of love, indeed.
  21. James, the Edo Period, which corresponds to Shinto + Shinshinto, was a time of peace. Instead of Koto weapons being made for constant battle (ignoring kazuuchi-mono)), Shinto blades were mostly for show. In the older blades, hamon grew much wider, so that a blade could either be resharpened, or cut down into a shorter weapon. Shinto blades maintained that, in large part, because hamon could be much flashier. Check out http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/12669-shinto-into-shinshinto-why/ for more in-depth info.
  22. Spent some time trying to set up an account, but their server keeps sending incorrect confirmation codes.
  23. Nice blades, & music to stare by. Love the strong nioiguchi.
  24. Where is your source for that statement?
