  1. Bruce, Your threads and studies will never cease to amaze me. I think that without you, I would never have noticed there were so many variants of the Kikusui. Keep this up and one day, write a book with all your discoveries. Your dedication to those subjects is amazing.
  2. All those pictures are wonderful! You could watch them for hours. I wish I were such a good photographer!
  3. Didn’t have the chance to speak with him or even meet him, but I extend my condolences to his friends and family.
  4. PM sent!
  5. Since we’re talking about pure fantasy, I really only need one and would be the happiest collector in the world. The Sanchomo/Yamatorige. For me this sword epitomizes the Japanese sword in all its beauty and glory. Hell, I’d be happy with an affordable utsushi.
  6. I guess I must misunderstand something there... my 43 is indeed a Mantetsu Tanzo Kore, with the NAN stamp and the W. But on the kabutogane, there also is a stamp though it is unreadable. So are we talking about the same thing or am I completely misunderstanding what you mean?
  7. You should have accepted and consider it like "pawning" it. Life is harsh sometimes and extended hands can be helpful. There will be a silver lining, hopefully sooner than you expect it.
  8. Island sword would be my thought too. Looks genuine but the shape is wrong for a "classic" Japanese sword.
  9. I know we’re not supposed to comment on items for sale any more, but I’m so sorry that you have to sell all those marvels Alex. It must feel terrible and I wanted to say that I sympathize with your situation. If I had money, I would buy it just to sell it back to you later when things get better. I hope they do soon. Hang in there buddy!
  10. Are you sure about that, Thomas? Because I thin i have this on my 43 too.
  11. Not a kizu for me. A sumigane or an inclusion of some sort. Maybe the skin is thinner in that spot and what you’re seeing is the softer core steel, but not a kizu. I like the blade by the way.

    Mumei Tanto

I do agree with Geraint. The file marks are very obvious on the nakago so it shouldn’t be extremely old
  13. A nice one and another member joining the Mantetsu proud owners' club. Enjoy it, those are the best swords.
  14. You’re welcome, Brian, That’s the least we owe you. And since I’m not a seller, that’s the best way for me to contribute. Keep up the good work. By the way, the “dark theme" has disappeared from the themes option when I subscribed. Probably a glitch. Man we’re giving you so much work!
  15. Done! It was seamless and easy.
  16. Sure Nicholas, Here they are(not my pics 'cause I suck at that:) 😞 and one site and two vids about Akamatsu Taro: http://www.users.on.net/~coxm/?page=Kimura&fbclid=IwAR2t3d7nmbEBP8A2u0Tv_C5ALtUfFFMcDpqKxBAwzzdNFgXmoGsSZjveLB4
  17. although I’m not surprised at all, how did you happen to know that?
  18. Yup! That’s the one I bought! A lovely blade and an awesome seller. I keep looking at it several times a day! By the way, that Sadayoshi is gorgeous!
  19. I haven’t commissioned the sword but have bought my first Shinsakuto recently and have to say it’s one of the Crown Jewels of my collection. It’s not by a Mukansa, but by the Kimura family (Akamatsu Taro) but what a beauty, what a marvelous sugata. And it’s so beautiful to see a nakago with a fresh carving. I’m in love!
  20. I see I now! Logical!
  21. Personally, I don’t either Bruce.
  22. I like that sugata!👍
  23. Some info on him here: And this:
  24. Suguha is something I didn’t care for at the beginning but since I kinda like extremes, my two favorite types of Hamon are a beautiful Suguha or a wild Chiji hamon. Besides, it’s supposed to be one of the most difficult Hamon to achieve.
  25. Whatever it is, it looks like a very nice blade. If I were you, I’d keep it. If it is the suriage that bothers you, this one has a good reason to be as WW2 blades were expected in that length range.
