Looks like one of those fake swords we see the last time. The most looks new, but this was faked too in a garage or wet cellar or stored in bad conditions. btw the old dog collar is nice Ah i found it. Its egun. Gunto NCO Katana Type 98 - eGun 353 EUR, 28 bids, 3days left.

My first thought was - this is a replica. Because it looks like brandnew and the leafs of the fuchi looks not right. But i think this sword is very unlucky photographed. With flash not focused or the blue light is false. So the color is total false. I think its a real Yasukuni to in top mountings. But i was unsure what i see.

無 is that mu Piers?

I think you are right Chris.

Thanks for the pictures Darin. They are to blury and shiny to say something about the blade how its made. Try to make pictures with a good light and the macro function of your smartphone or stand back with the sword against the sunlight so you can catch a sharp picture of the hamon to see what kind of activity is happned. An example for the window/ sunlight variant (showa-to Kaneshige) Kanenori showa-to in sunlight

Unusual naval kyugunto dress sword -possibly unique
vajo replied to Beater's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Maybe some kind of collecting stuff? That sword looks terrible cheap. -
You have all very good skills in catching the hamon. Bravo.

Rob, what you mean with seppa? I can't see the seppa clearly on his pictures. It looks absolut legit with the sakura blosssoms on the rim. For me it looks like iron or sheet metal. The fuchi looks like patinated cooper. Maybe you could mark it on the picture?

Its a legit one. Nice sword. The only thing is that someone rubbed the niage patination from the fuchi to see the stamps.

Welcome Darin Nice sword but i think we need to see better pictures of your blade. Hamon and activity to say anything. Hard to say for me anything about your Masamitsu signed swordsmith. There was some showa era swordsmith who signed with Masamitsu. The jo-saku gendai Masamitsu was Fukuoka Masamitsu and he was a Kaigun swordsmith during WWII. others: Fukuda Masamitsu (from Saga) Fujita Masamitsu (Shimane) Suruga Masamitsu (Okayama) These are the one i know. But there are some others out there. I think that is your smith Katana(Gunto): Masamitsu | Japanese Sword Online Museum (aoijapan.net) Tsuruta san wrotes that the blade is machine made not forged (whatever he means with that) but the pictures shows a showa-to sword (not gendai-to). That Masamitsu is not reported in a book he says. But overall as allways. I'm not an expert. Others here in the board know much more about these things.

The nanako of the tsuka looks correct too. It seems to be a nice sword. If you have any doubt i would take it. What you see here. The stamps are perfect The coloring is perfect The niage patination of the fuchi is perfect The nanako is positive not inverse - perfect The etched hamon looks very nice. The numbers are correct. The stamp is correct. Btw you made excellent pictures by light and sharpness. Thanks for asking and showing it.

Honjo Masamune found!! (well almost... maybe)
vajo replied to Adrian S's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Everyone knows that the Masamune is in the area 51 with all that other secrets. -
Why is the letter sharp and the picture not?

Its a tsuba for me. But the rim inside looks like a Fuchi. It think its both.
