All the same... the offers came from Japan. If it is a present take it as it is. If you like you can remove the color from the tsuba and patinate it with cold patination to a nice choclate brown or deep black. Those alloy tsuba reacts very good. I made that sword fittings for my son to look more authentic. He loves it.

Total crazy.

Yes Jacques He died 3 years after the forge was heaten again. Maybe he made some after 1953. But when he was using all this names in 12 years of forging swords. He forged for the Yasukuni Shrine fulltime.

After all what i learned here about island swords, emergency last stage swords, occupied territories made sword, field repair teams and extemporaneous made field swords i will never say - never. To much pictures out there with chinese in Japanese uniforms with sandals and crude looking Type98. There is wide range between fake and authentic. This sword is so much individuel made in design and shows so much sign of wear. Someone put a lot of work in this fake. We all know the typical chinese fake swords. This is not one of them. Are those swords collectible - no, not for me. Its trash. But also trash can be authentic. And if a collector wants to collect these type of swords? Why not if he likes it. People collect everything. Some collect ww2 sake cups, others the shitty pants of German soldiers.

I understand your point Stephen.

Hamfish why they chissle all the fittings? Is it it not a little to much work for an modern fake? Seppa is cut out by hand Every piece is made by hand on this. All that work for a cheap gunto replica? For me it is a handmade type98 sword. Not Japanese but authentic. I would really like to see that offer and the blade? Anyone knows where these sword auction is?

Shipping delays, lost packages?
vajo replied to Lee997's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Lee the national post ended on the border. They handeled the package to another parcel service. Its the same when you order from Japan oder US. With this f.... brexit all is now complicated. I would really buy some pieces in GB but all this custom ding and dong now - i will wait that GB jump back into the EU. -
Where is that sword? Noah if this is a island sword, late war emergency sword or fake doesnt matter. Why to collect such things? There are so many good swords in the market from high reputated smiths.
-
Late war gunto for me. Is it yours Noah? What about the blade?
-
Looks like custom made fittings. Late war or island made i don't know. This looks not like fake. The kabutogane is chissled, also the fuchi and the koigane. To much work for a fake sword. The ito looks Japanese made. Can you show us the rest of the sword?

The one i spot on is in i belive post war daisho mounts. I think it was for iiato or something else. the tsuba looks edo

maybe someone can help me. The swordsmith is Miyaguchi Yasuhiro the blade is signed Miyaguchi Kunimori There are "some" blades from Miyaguchi Kunimori all around the internet and here in the board. The smith - born 1897 startet 1933 and signed with follow signatures Toshihiro Miyaguchi Ikkansai Toshihiro Yasuhiro (as he forged for the Yasukuni shrine) Miyagucchi Yasuhiro Ikkansai Kunimori Miyaguchi Kunimori He died 1956 Now my problem. The most swords of him are not dated. The most swords of him found in the i-net are signed with Miyaguchi Kunimori Could it be that these Miyaguchi Kunimori blades are all post war forged blades? Did anyone had a Miyaguchi Kunimori signed blade in Type98 oder Type3 mounts?

Funny Title on a Samuraimonkey sale
vajo replied to Bruce Pennington's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers

They look both not good Noah. You need to see the nakago to say anything. Both are out of polish. No sharp shinogi line, no yokote - nothing. Ask for pictures of the naked blade without koshirae.
-
The blade is out of polish and bad treated. The lines are sanded round. I see nothing on this blade. Worse photoshoped too

Emergency Late War Officer Gunto
vajo replied to Bruce Pennington's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Found that in the Nihonto Collector Group in Facebook. I told the owner to ask here in the board. Could that be a island sword? What you think? The sword is rough made with improvised cast fittings. He said it is a family heirloom from his uncle who had it from a Japanese officer in guinea. It's obvious not Japanese made but it looks not like the typical chinese made repros. The ito looks like made from stripes of cloth, a blue jacket or trousers. The same is iguana or something else. -
So the iron atoms need the pressure of forging to find theire place. But what is with Temperguss (Tempercast) GJMB-650 Its near steel i think. I think forging is more easy than casting in the end.
-
Stupid question a little scifi. When you melt iron in a vacuum (with a laser or inside a fusion reactor) and cast it, is it also brittle?

old military blade or just old chinese junk??
vajo replied to Pippo's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Sato Kotaro is a netflix anime. For me 100% chinese deco. Make a o-wakizashi from it. With a mei. The kanji looks etched not chissled for me. -
Forging iron only with stones. A very good document.
