Hello I recently purchased on layaway this Tanto. Please see article and pics below. Looking for opinions and if I should be concerned about the wound on the hamon towards the tip of the blade. I believe it is in the original old polish

Thanks

Steve

I agree with John, I dont think there is anything of great concern. Overall it looks to be an interesting blade and you dont see too many Showa period tanto.

The photos are not good enough to allow a comment, at least not for me. Generally speaking, all kinds of corrosion are issues you have to deal with to prevent spreading. A blade like yours which seems to be in very good condition derives its attractiveness from a perfect appearance, so you should show the blade to someone competent to evaluate the damage (if there was one at all).

Thanks, checked w seller he stated it is just discoloration from someone touching the blade and can be polished out w finger stones but is not something that needs to be immediately addressed

The discoloration (blemish) is apparent. The polisher ( togishi)  may not have been able to remove it, The seller should have done, what he suggested, you can do, using finger stones that a togishi uses to polish out?  Interesting statement, " not something that needs to be immediately addressed".  The nakago at the habaki shows corrosion. How far up does it go?  Peace.

If the polisher was unable to remove it without changing the shape, it is unlikely that the owner will be able to, assuming the polish was recent.

If you take it to finger stone you wont be happy with yourself. Lets see in your hand how bad it looks. If its realing nagging you send it to a pro.

Thanks I guess I need to make sure it’s not active rust otherwise for me it’s not an issue and I would hate to have to send the blade away for a year a two to touch up given current turn around times I have seven from certain polishers
