John A Stuart Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 I'll never be that big a boy. Oh, how I wish from time to time. ¥10,000,000 John Quote

Stephen Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Love to own a day n night tsuba some day. My mind doesn't compute how wealthy id have to be to consider paying that price for a tsuba. Quote
rkg Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 You noticed the Tomei daisho a couple of links down, right? http://iidakoendo.com/2492/ rkg (Richard George) Quote
Katsujinken Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Why is that particular tsuba so expensive? Quote
sabi Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Why is that particular tsuba so expensive? Highly regarded artist and a very desirable motif. 1 Quote
Gakusee Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Lovely indeed. Great artist as well. But in my mind not in the same price range as a highly prized Juyo/ even TJ sword that one could acquire for that much money. Of course - one man’s meat is another man’s poison. Iida san’s prices tend to be a bit toppy as well. Similar items could be found elsewhere for c10-20% less but his quality and items are always very top-end. 4 Quote
Brian Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Those are both fantastic. Thanks for sharing Pete. Not sure which I lean towards. I think the day/night one (thanks Stephen) gets me a little more. But either would make me a very happy man. Would love to just spend an hour studying either. Quote
Curran Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Iida san’s prices tend to be a bit toppy as well. Yes. If memory is correct, this is the guy who does the velvet rope line at the DTI- being about as explicit as possible that it is an exclusive club. On the other hand, he has some of the most excellent examples on display that you will rarely see outside of Japan. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted June 2, 2018 Report Posted June 2, 2018 In how many areas of art collecting can you purchase an iconic work by a top tier artist at this price? Not many! Cheers, Quote
Curran Posted June 2, 2018 Report Posted June 2, 2018 In how many areas of art collecting can you purchase an iconic work by a top tier artist at this price? Not many! Hence, someone with FU type money will eventually buy it as relatively cheap compared to 2nd rate or 3rd rate Impressionist painting. Quote
Curran Posted June 2, 2018 Report Posted June 2, 2018 At least no one will put their elbow through it. Wynn for the win! Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted June 2, 2018 Report Posted June 2, 2018 Good point, but I shudder to think of a tsuba like this in the wrong hands.....imagine the ugly possibilities! Cheers, p.s.-155 mill, isn't half bad. Quote
