Paul wrote a little kantei book that is quite useful. It fits in your pocket. It is called: The Japanese Sword: Guide to Nyusatsu Kantei : Koto, Shinto Dozen List Publisher Paul Martin, 2010 ISBN 1596030267, 9781596030268 Length 48 pages I did not see it available on his facebook page.

A couple of years ago one was for sale at the Tampa show. It did not sell. If I remember correctly the price dropped to $500. I do not collect archeological items and I guess that no one else did at the show.

Hi Rayhan: Like most things people like different things. Some love o hada others do not. I find hada one of the most appealing things about swords. Good o hada is wonderful to look at. Poor o hada awful. I can say the same for Hizen hada, masame hada etc. Look at good examples is the best advice I can give. Some would call matsukawa hada (Norishige) o hada. I love his hada...

Several years ago, at a sword show a vendor had two Enjyu swords for sale. One had hozon papers the other tokubetsu hozon. I bought the one with hozon because it was a better sword. "Buy the sword not the paper" is a good policy when buying. But when selling the higher the paper the easier the sale.

Darcy and Ted do amazing work on blades and good work on fittings. Richard George does amazing work on fittings. Other people do reasonable work but are not at the same level. There are hozon level photographers, tokubetsu level photographers, juyo level and very few tokuju level. Then there is the great mass of never submitted, failed shinsa, and junk photographers who may take great shots of people, landscapes, pets and plants but not nihonto nor kodogu. I, unfortunately, fit into the last category or perhaps on a good day hozon level.

The kashira was often made of black horn. You can get a paper for a set that is just a fuchi and a horn kashira.
