  1. Mine is green. I have used it for years. It is the best!
  2. Yes! Look up oshigata and you will find out how it is done. Lay the tracing paper over the blade and use magnets to hold the paper in place. Fridge magnets, the flexible kind can work. This has been discussed on nmb before.
  3. Draw on powerless the outline of the blade. Send the cutout to the person who owns the saya. If he removes the screws holding the koiguchi (end cap), he can gently pull the wood insert out. The two halves usually come apart easily. He then can try to see it the fit is close. Some owners would not do this with their saya. Here is a more modern option. Get a 3D print of the blade and send that to him to try it out.
  4. Baby powder or corn starch night be easier. Sprinkle then remove excess.
  5. Warm welcome for a fellow Canadian!
  6. Thanks, Michael! The crowd seemed small compared to what I remember for the San Francisco show.
  7. Thanks James! I like Yamato blades. I am sad that I missed the blades and the fittings.
  8. Can anyone offer the makers of the Yamato blades displayed on Saturday?
  9. Welcome to both of you. You have to learn the language in order to understand the conversation. Here are some links to glossaries of sword terms: https://www.samuraimuseum.jp/shop/glossary/ http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/glossry.htm

  13. Have you tried alcohol, acetone or benzene? The last two are not good for you. Use then out doors.
  14. Bob I second George M. in that the commission and the video helped many to appreciate tsuba more and more.
  15. Glad to see you back.
  16. Mark Jones, who is a member here, runs the Chicago show and he and his family do a wonderful job. I am sure that he could provide more information than the typical table holder.
  17. I still have my first sword, bought in 1976. I thought at the time that every blackbelt needed a sword. Who knew that it would start me on this long journey.
  18. The Boston Museum of Fine Art usually has a great display.
  19. You are correct. "My bad" as they say. Mutsudomoe = mitsu tomoe
  20. There is an old saying amount collectors "mumei is better than gimei" Of course, many gimei blades are great swords, but without the fake signature the blade would be even better.
  21. I'm surprised that no one mentioned the mitsu tomoe motif in #84.
