  1. Very early model indeed, I have only seen such swords in reference books.
  2. Would be very difficult, especially if many years/buyers have gone by since they were separated.
  3. Nice Kai Gunto, all I could see of note sword wise.
  4. Unless a short sword in gunto mountings is *specifically* attributed to an officer in a tank/airforce/vehicle company I take all "crew gunto" with the same side of salt that Steve does.
  5. You did well JoJo, 300+ year old blade, silver mon and nice quality koshirae. Specimens like this are getting harder to find everywhere.
  6. Nothing low quality about silk cord sarute, I've seen them more often than not on high quality Gunto. Also preferred by combat officers due to it not making any noise.
  7. Does remind me a little of amateur polish with acid etch. In fact reminds me strongly of paul chen style polish. Either way, it's real and looks like a decently made sword.
  8. White mountings, sounds like this example on Ohmuras website: http://ohmura-study.net/714.html
  9. You can get much better sword for that money, take things slow and view your options. You could get a nice daisho for that money.
  10. Ian that's a very unique opportunity to have had, to me it seems more likely to have been made by Gassan Sadakatsu, it's a very finely made sword.
  11. While I imagine some of the Australian members have seen these, I'm sure the other members might enjoy Lieutenant General Imamura and Baba's swords. General Imamuras sword was a gift from the Emperor in 1918 and is thought to have been made by Kanenori Miyamoto or Gassan Sadakatsu. Another interesting sword is a Kai Gunto of Lieutenant Kenshi Chuma, recovered from the midget sub that attacked Sydney harbour. Detailed info on the Kai Gunto: https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C209155?image=3
  12. I went back to the AWM and got a few pics of that sword I mentioned before:
  13. My only other theory is to keep the tassel cord in place.
  14. Only liberal views on what is a persons property and what isn't.
  15. A couple of mine have about 1-2mm gap due to the tight fit. As ken said, tigthter fit is good.
  16. Could easily fool a new collector. Or close enough for someone to buy it as a wallhangar.
  17. I am most sorry to hear that, hopefully it turns up in a local pawnshop and can be recovered by police ASAP.
  18. I believe post war meddling on the tsuba and seppa.
  19. Shaved down to reduce weight I suppose.
  20. Yeah, Kai Gunto saya. If it's original to the sword it would be another potential mark towards showato.
  21. Hamon reminds me of oil quenched, however from that's just from one photo seen.
