I see what you are seeing also.
  4. As Brian said.....every weld has the potential to not be a good one, so it takes a lot of skill to produce such a sword. The "half- forged" reference makes sense to me, in that Hamfish's sword would be the result of forge welding a billet less times than another sword which has less hada...forged further, the sword could be said to be muji hada, but which is actually folded so many times the layers seem to disappear.

That is the only reason i can see for that level of modification, but still, why so aggressive?
  6. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musō_Jikiden_Eishin-ryū There is always something new to learn. The people mentioned in the article are listed in the Wiki article also.

How do you know it is the same blade? Link?

Nice blade; the photos do not allow a very good analysis of the nakago...what is up with the transition from the nakago to the habakidai, seems to be a filed elevation change.
  10. Older blade into newer koshirae perhaps?
  11. I think the hamon is real, but also agree with the rest of the comments, that it is a late piece produced for export.
  12. Is THAT what the kids are calling it these days?!
  13. Well, if i ever get to time travel, I now know where to kick an IJA soldier in his junk.
  14. I have no experience or expertise on the dark spots on shinshinto, just that Nagayama mentions it in Connoisseur's.
  15. Nagayama states that a shinshinto trait was dark spots along the peaks of the hamon; how was this achieved, and how will you differentiate that with oil quenched showato?
  16. It says " We are from France, on a world tour with our cannons....send girls and sake or else!"
  17. I bought a metal detector to look for property line posts and treasure, found neither but a lot of trash.
