Lareon Posted December 4, 2021 Author Report Posted December 4, 2021 So how I got the tsuka off in only 4 hours.... The nakago was very rusty and I think there was a small wooden shim or broken piece of wood in there too. It really wouldn't budge. My fingers ache now. I used the table method for a while and after an hour managed to get a few mm clearance. I wrapped the tsuba In the towel and used a rubber mallet to tap it over and over while using rubber gloves to hold the tsuka. This got me enough to wedge a fork between the Seppa collar and the tsuba. I wrapped.the fork in electrical tape so as not to damage any metal and used it to apply a lever force to the tsuka as gently as I could and did this all round this took a while but I couldn't see light in the mekugi ana anymore. With a combination of this and running a little choji oil down between the fittings I could hear it moving slightly. I had to do this for a while. Even at the end it required a fair bit of force to get off. Hope you guys enjoyed the adventure! 1 Quote
Lareon Posted December 4, 2021 Author Report Posted December 4, 2021 Light coating of oil on the nakago to stop that red Rust. Quote

robinalexander Posted December 4, 2021 Report Posted December 4, 2021 Good photos Tony...I am sure I'm not the only one enjoying this. Tks for the time taken so far! 1 Quote
vajo Posted December 4, 2021 Report Posted December 4, 2021 where did you see the seki stamp? I didn't found it. The nakago looks not like a typical showa sword. Quote

vajo Posted December 4, 2021 Report Posted December 4, 2021 Oh thanks Tony. Looks not like a seki stamp. What is it? The blade looks older. High shinogi. Maybe you can make better pictures from the hamon in sunlight to see some details. Interesting purchase. Quote
Lareon Posted December 4, 2021 Author Report Posted December 4, 2021 Here's one more. Let me get my DSLR out and take some proper photos 1 Quote

ROKUJURO Posted December 4, 2021 Report Posted December 4, 2021 Do I see TOBIYAKI in the HAMON? That would not be found in SHOWATO I think. 1 Quote
Stephen Posted December 4, 2021 Report Posted December 4, 2021 @Bruce Pennington Dont look like standard seki stamp.....what say ye? 1 Quote
vajo Posted December 4, 2021 Report Posted December 4, 2021 It gets more and more interesting. I missed the shadow line above the hamon what is typical for showato. And i think i see the layers of steel and some activity. I don't think its showato. It looks like a nice sword. I didn't find a Tadahiro named Showa Swordsmith in my books. Only the known linage of Tadahiro. 1 Quote

vajo Posted December 4, 2021 Report Posted December 4, 2021 Found that picture in google search. The stamp looks similar? From Rich's site is a Tadahiro listet Seki Kaji Tosho 忠広 (Tadahiro) Real Name: 後藤 善三郎 Kato Zenzaburo? Quote

The blade has damage from somekind of fluid or chemical that won't come off with isopropyl or after an oiling. In one or two of the shots it looks the same as the hamon Quote

george trotter Posted December 5, 2021 Report Posted December 5, 2021 Date is hard to see but looks to me like it might be "? thousand ? hundred year" (that is: Koki 2 thousand 6 hundredth year) = 1940. 3 Quote
Lareon Posted December 5, 2021 Author Report Posted December 5, 2021 Tried to get a few more of the Hamon for everyone. There's some kind of dark staining on the blade. Doesn't come off. Isn't rust. Any ideas? Looks chemical to me Quote
