ChrisW Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 People who stick their heads in the sand and refuse to educate themselves... aka as a wise conman once said, "there's a sucker born every minute." 1 2 Quote
Brano Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 I agree with Chris People have in nature to believe that this is a bargain People buy miraculous water filters, pills after which you will immediately lose 20 kg or water for bald after which you will have a mane like in your twenties It is always a lack of information and education And there are always plenty of buyers 1 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 I have informed the seller 2days ago that this blade is not of Japanese origin and he replied "thanks for information". Also the description is not logical where his Information about some fantasy "USMC colonel" come from :D Quote
16k Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 .... hum.... good question! ...why do they bid on this.... hummmmm...................... because they are stupid? Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 I think the people are more greedy then stupid. 2 2 Quote

Surfson Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 Mike knew the instant he saw that sword from the other side of the room that it was junk. I guess they had to go through the motions as if it might be authentic. Quote
ChrisW Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 Anyone with an iota of experience with nihonto would know this is trash. Quote

I think sometimes we forget here... what percent of the population REALLY has “an iota of experience” with nihonto? Not everyone is as crazy... err ummm... ‘enlightened’ as we are. 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 True. But for anyone willing to drop ANY amount of money on a purchase like that... you think they'd be willing to do A little homework. But its as previously said, its laziness and greed in action. Quote

On one occasion I visited an older gent who had 25 Japanese swords and had been collecting for 3 or so years. Yep, all Chinese junk and not one Nihonto amongst them. On another occasion it was a man I knew who had some nice Packard cars and 15 Japanese swords. Same deal again. The kicker in this case was that a friend of the Packard owner, hearing of my visit, had brought along his single Japanese sword and to the ire of my Packard-owning mate it was a genuine Nihonto... I feel we could continue this thread ad infinitum... BaZza. Quote
Hanito Posted January 10, 2021 Author Report Posted January 10, 2021 $720 was the was selling price... I feel bad for that buyer. I enjoy pawn stars but tv shows are scripted and reshot even the reality ones. Even many youtubers do reshoots and have scripts. Quote
MHC Posted January 10, 2021 Report Posted January 10, 2021 It's simple really....the lure of easy money or wealth is the basis for all con's and scams, it matters not the subject or item. Sunken treasure, lost gold mine, buried mason jar full of coins, helping out the poor Nigerian lad. etc., etc. Personally, I have found that nothing has any real value, until one has invested either sweat, time or love into it. I gave up any illusion of instant benefit, once I aged into an adult. Mark 1 1 Quote
