Brian Posted January 30, 2020 Report Posted January 30, 2020 Like most, would grab it if it wasn't ivory. This one will have to stay in the UK. 1 Quote

BenVK Posted January 30, 2020 Report Posted January 30, 2020 The auction house at least managed to get the photo in focus which is more than I can say for this sword! https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/bentleys-auction-rooms/catalogue-id-srben10220/lot-a5fd5322-7b57-438e-91bc-ab4c0139ec02 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 31, 2020 Report Posted January 31, 2020 The crack dye and signature look new, clumsy. 2 Quote
BIG Posted January 31, 2020 Author Report Posted January 31, 2020 Seller said "Meiji"... and a well known artist? Best 1 Quote
PietroParis Posted January 31, 2020 Report Posted January 31, 2020 Could it be Mitsutama 光玉 ? In that case, it is a signature that appears to be associated to rather dodgy 20th-century carvings, see e.g. here, here and here. The pictures in your other post do not suggest particularly high quality to me (but I get why the sword-making subject might appeal this forum's members). Cheers, Pietro 2 Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 I have an okimono of a figure in samurai attire drawing a sword for cleaning and appreciation. May I just say that I paid considerably more for it than 50 GBP! Quote

Bazza Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 Ohhhhh, very, very nice Piers. Thanks, beautifully presented. I love the tatami he is sitting on. We may presume it is a Masamune tanto he is cleaning and appreciating... BaZZa. 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 Haha, yes, although there is a faint possibility of a Muramasa... PS He's quite small, about the size of an average Netsuke. 2 Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Did you make that small tatami mat, Piers? It really shows off the okimono quite exquistely. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 You can buy several varieties of these mini tatami mats, Ken. Quote
Guest Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Hi Ken, try searching for Mamedatami, they have them on Amazon. Quote
