DoTanuki yokai Posted August 26, 2019 Report Posted August 26, 2019 Hi, i got that shobu zukuri Katana that i bought only for the shobu zukuri style. When i recieved the Katana i had no informations about it and after i was checking it i translate the mei "Yasunori". After i did some google research i found out many things about yasukuni-to and Yasunori. Now im not sure what to think. Nagasa: 71cm Nakago: 24cm Moto haba: 3,26cm Moto gasane: 0.82cm saki gasane: 0,6cm Sori: 1,5cm I have only my phone to take photos, i hope thats ok and you guys can help me Quote
vajo Posted August 26, 2019 Report Posted August 26, 2019 The mei looks newly made and not like Yasunori. Is there a big ware on the shape photo? Looks all not legit to me. Btw the blades reminds me on one we discuss from the seller Komonji on ebay. Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted August 26, 2019 Author Report Posted August 26, 2019 No, it is only a bad reflection. No ware or other flaws so far 1 Quote
vajo Posted August 26, 2019 Report Posted August 26, 2019 I would go for a shinsakuto. The sword is nicely made. Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted August 26, 2019 Author Report Posted August 26, 2019 Some more pics of the mei. Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 26, 2019 Report Posted August 26, 2019 Was this sword purchased at auction as a bare blade with no shirasaya, habaki, etc? It seems fairly certain that it is a newly-made sword and I am doubtful that it is of Japanese origin. 2 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted August 26, 2019 Report Posted August 26, 2019 Oh, good! Glad it's not just me who thinks there's something out of kilter with this blade. The mei, ana, & the nakago all look...off. 1 Quote
vajo Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 Same mei as the Komonjo ones. It was only a matter of time before the first blades came to discussion here. 1 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted August 27, 2019 Author Report Posted August 27, 2019 yea ok, i have read now every thread about komonji but the mate who bought it for me got it on ebay from someone like komonji or another account i found him yesterday on ebay "w12w2" or something. (found him in the komonji threads not sure someone said it is another account of komonji). In the threads i found no 100% prove of where they really come from ? Ok some other questions i have for my Nihonto progress, the hamon and the activitys and hada are real ? Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 I believe that is the alternate account for Changtian_swords. Based out of Rockville Maryland and known seller of Chinese fakes. Quote
Ray Singer Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 Yes, this is the seller. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Japanese-Samurai-Sword/233278261259?hash=item365077c80b:g:YggAAOSw5K5dHUiW A number of others here. You can even buy a Chinese-made Hocho Masamune. https://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=20849&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=2&_fss=1&_fsradio=%26LH_SpecificSeller%3D1&_saslop=1&_sasl=wblwbl12&_sop=3&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&LH_Complete=1 Quote
Ganko Posted August 27, 2019 Report Posted August 27, 2019 These fakes are generally sold as bare blades which should be a cautionary clue to the uninitiated. Many of them have good gendai swordsmiths names inscribed and the nakagos all look like they were artificially colored by the same hand. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted August 28, 2019 Report Posted August 28, 2019 There is a silver lining I suppose as these are certainly some of the nicer chinese made swords available. Quote
16k Posted August 29, 2019 Report Posted August 29, 2019 Honestly, whoever made this, Chinese or Japanese, it looks good I think, recent, but good. Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted September 12, 2019 Author Report Posted September 12, 2019 Hi, i spend my Free time the last week to Craft a habaki for the Blade. I finished the fitting and just wanna share some pics if thats ok ofc i only used traditional tools. (if modern files are traditional :D) I used a zink-silver alloy for the welding and had to do it twice after the first one Opend while fitting. As u can see its a copper Habaki but if im happy with the final result i will gold foil it. The last step will be the Polish and maybe adding some classic Habaki pattern. Im not doing anything like that professional and everything i know i learend in books and the Internet and some youtube videos, so i hope its ok and i dont break any rule of nihonto collecting ? 3 Quote
