Brian Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Definitely an earlier one modified later. Maybe the outer plate had some significance to a new owner? Quote
Geraint Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 The brass plate looks as if it might have been engine turned, perhaps a European piece adapted to the tsuba. The wire net seems to have a mesh that gets larger as it moves toward the rim. Intriguing. All the best. 1 Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 This is something I have not seen before, extreme modification. Attractive tsuba, to me. John Quote

Toryu2020 Posted January 18, 2016 Report Posted January 18, 2016 Wonderful piece - my guess would that this is meant to be a (Jin-) Kasa a straw hat. Love this! Quote
Jorgensen Posted January 19, 2016 Report Posted January 19, 2016 lol @ hamfish Very special tsuba, looks very well made, have not been easy. The pattern inside make me think of bees net. Quote

MauroP Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 I've found another similar one, so a rare but not unique finding. Attribution Iyo-Shōami. (from: http://www.hyozaemon.jp/product/tsuba005/) Bye, Mauro 1 Quote
