  1. I have had a few Hojoji blades over the years....they did some very nice work and are a bit overlooked. The kissaki on this blade is a bit longer than what is usually seen from this smith. Nice first blade!
  2. The even groups of togari bring to mind a Seki or Seki derivative group. It has been polished plenty; later koto perhaps...
  3. The mei reads: Sesshu ju Yamato (most likely "no kami") XX.... You have half the mei. You need to find out which smiths in Osaka used the Yamato no Kami title....
  4. Pretty sure this reads Sesshu, not Soshu...摂州 Should straighten without any issues. David has straightened a few blades for me that were bent much more severely than yours. But. as others have said, anytime you straighten a blades, there is a potential for hagire to occur....
  5. Number 1 is called a hyoju 宝珠 (flaming jewel) and is a buddhist symbol....

    Nakago

Could also be from a poorly done repatination....
  7. Not necessarily- they could have gotten a bit sloppy when they heated the blade to soften the hamon when they did the machi-okuri...

    Tradition & period

You can often get an indication concerning the bo-hi by how deep they are on the blade as compared to in the nakago. If they are original, or nearly so, they are often times materially deeper in the nakago than in the blade which has been polished repeatedly, as older blades tend to be...
  9. Here's something to consider: if the lower mekugi-ana is original, it would appear the blade has machi-okuri, with a newer ana above. This places the mei in a very odd location. I would then conclude it is a latter addition and thus gimei.

    Help please.

Perhaps Kashu ju nin Mitsuyuki 加州住人光之

    Is it fatal?

The scoring for kantei-sho (second level) is from 70 to 79 so 72 is at the bottom of the scale....

    Is it fatal?

Wasn't the NTHK-NPO....72 is a low score, regardless....
  13. I think George is right! It is Norimitsu 法光, not Kiyomitsu.....
  14. The sword may have had a different habaki which wasn't as "long". Is it possible that a "short" habaki, thin pair or seppa, and a thin tsuba could fit with room for a "normally" located mekugi-ana in a tsuka? The upper hole looks original to me as the lower one seems too close to the mei. There is always the possibility the mei was added later-though very unlikely....
  15. Koto is a pretty reasonable guess....Looks like a fairly well made sword with lots of activity.
  16. Tenshozan Tanrenjo Kitae kore Stainless....
  17. There were many who used the mei Kiyomitsu so it is hard to say....
  18. Fujishima 藤島
  19. Blade is signed Bizen Osafune Kiyo(?)mitsu and dated Eisho 4th year, 2nd month.
  20. John has it...Sadatsugu
  21. Workmanship doesn't look up to the quality associated with Naotane. The mei looks off to me too....

    tadamitsu

looks like Tadamitsu to me.....lots of them though...
  23. The Saneo is fantastic....
  24. Mei is a little different but the nakago shape, finish, and color is about the same...This smith seems to have a some variety to his signature as well; all things considered, I wouldn't be surprised if the mei is good...
