  1. Hi Chris, looks like a simple but well crafted hachi, by all means. One of a series maybe, because of the number on the koshimaki, like Justin already stated. On the other hand, I could imagine that this number was carved for attaching the appropriate shikoro (produced by another katchi or workshop). Determine the age is a bit tricky, anyhow, Momoyama to early Edo seems a good call, IMHO. Uwe

    Suji Kabuto

    Thanks a lot Pete Uwe
  3. There are also a special type of armor called "O-Yoroi". Evolved around the Heian period, particularly for mounted use. Uwe
  4. Seems tachi-mei. That should it narrow down a bit.......

    Satsuma-age

Usually, it is not re-hardened or a false hamon (boshi). Satsuma-age embeded (leaves) the original hamon in the new shape of the blade! Uwe
  6. What one can say for sure is, that the menpo (mask) is a "Nara-men" of "ressei" type. Uwe PS: Waiting for better pics
  7. Hi Todd, In most cases this kanji are storage marks (numbers) or markings for help assembling the single parts to a complete gusoku. I have a menpo bearing similar signs on the tare in shu urushi (red lacquer). Uwe PS: What do you want to know about this armor?
  8. Sad to hear this. My condolences to his family and friends! Uwe Ps: He was on my age.....to young to die!

    Need your opinion

So I will be the bad guy here. Alex, I'm afraid you wont get the answer you want to hear. Not because we don't want, but we can't. Please go back to Ian's post and read it carefully. I think it describes the "dilemma" quite well Cheers Uwe

    Need your opinion

Alex, High end stuff, far out of reach for the most serious armor collectors (including me ) Well, can't tell from the pics if the kabuto (only hachi) is actually Nambokucho but shape suggests this. About the do; there is only one Munesuke listed in the Meikan. Period is matching with the description. What else to say? If you like the set and you have some money left over Regards Uwe
  16. No problem Barry, the member understood The blades indeed were a bit nicer than me :D Cheers Uwe
  17. Great experience Although a bit overwhelmed by the huge amount of swords, as a "first timer" So I needed a break as I finished the first floor and took tee with Luc and Jo. Some very nice armors even were around. But like mentioned before, the dealers knew their stuff. So you had to face up with a price range from 1,4 to 8,5 million yen No bargain at all Uwe
  18. Rain rain rain..... :?
  19. Sadly right Eric Uwe
  20. Eric, agreeing with most of your points. But you have to admit, that the fetching prices of both armors are a bit "exceptionally". Don't you think Uwe
  21. Eric, I assume Jeremy used the provided pics from the seller Uwe
  22. Ouch.... ..... :D
  23. Dave, as far as I know, okashi means "to loan". Rebellion swords are a different matter! Uwe
  24. Welcome Chris Uwe
