No Stefan, the gap in the stamp above is caused by the thickness of the glued in picture. Regards
  2. We should also consider, that sometimes clans used the first character of their family name as maedate! Well, in this case.......... I tend to say modern?!
  3. Hi Bojan, Ian is basically right. Almost no chance for pinning down the families (clans) if there is no further information about the particular armor (-parts) bearing the mon. Not to disappoint you completely, here are some possibilities.... The kabuto: The dou: The fugikaeshi (second kabuto): Guess, now you can imagin why Ian not named any specific family
  4. Hi Bojan, I'll try to figure out on Sunday. When I'm back home from vacations.....
  5. Nice armor Guido! I`ve to admit, that you are right in this case. It`s indeed a "shikami". I was a bit negligent with my first claim. Oni Shikami Sometimes also seen "Fûjin" and "Raijin". Gods of wind and thunder......
  6. It's a so called "Oni". Mystical creature of Japanese legends.....
  7. Had a guided tour through the collection last Monday Tom. The low estimations doesn't mean much....as you know!
  8. ......... just noticed that I`m here since 2006... I like to thank Rich, Rich, Brian and all the supporters and contributors of this great forum....Cheers folks
  9. Agree, typical Bizen nakago-jiri.
  10. Matt, try to use oblique light!
  11. I'm with Ray!
  12. As a quick shot, "Bishu Osafune junin.....Kozuke Daijo Fujiwara Sukesada". Oh.....to late.
  13. Hi John, look at the second pic in the first post
  14. Hi Jose, it's difficult to get a guess based on the pics. When in doubt, put it in the "Myochin corner" later Edo period. The main problem on this mask is the missing nose piece (hana). You should consider, that it will be almost impossible to source a matching replacement.
  15. Hi Jose, Hira-Jingasa with a kanji based mon. Agree with Geraint about the paper!
  16. Welcome Geoffrey!
  17. It's "Sagami no Kami Fujiwara Kaneyasu". Mino, maybe around 1661. I'm out for the grass scrip part....
  18. Great, thanks Morita san! Doesn't expect a date at this type of armor... Sry Jose, I was proved to be wrong.
  19. Jose, ashigaru armor's or okashi gusoku (lent armor's) bearing usually neither a date nor a signature. Shu urushi inscriptions are mostly numbers and sizes. Or sometimes including at best the name of the arsenal.

    Special Book Reviews

Hi Peter, if I remember well, Jo mentioned, it's a quite rare and very expensive set! Wish there was a translation.....
  22. That might be right. Very faint though and hard to read......but some strokes tallies!
  23. Dare a guess...... "Musashi no Kami Fujiwara Kanenaka"
  24. Rather Ko Bizen morning....
  25. Hi Jason, I'm not sure that your example is depicting kirikomi!?
