  1. Agree with Justin, "tetsu shu urushi nuri ressei men" with "kiritsuke kozane kebiki odoshi tare". Standard "Nara-Type" I guess! Regards Uwe
  2. Nothing left to say...
  3. Thanks Ian for confirming the date. I thought I was wrong, because the first kanji was hard to read. Ed, I think this is a typical piece to part with! But no worry, I will send you my shipping address Uwe

Not my subject, but very interesting. Will try to learn....... Uwe
  9. Hi Jussi, yes I`ve heard that the wont of the satsuma guys was a funky fighting and drawing technique  The question is, was udenuki fastened through the kurigata to prevent the sword accidentally slipping out of the saya, or tying it around the wrist to avoid loosing it in battle (fencing)? Cheers Uwe

    Strange blade

Hamon on the last pic pointed towards Mino, I think. Furthermore, kasane on the mune-machi looks quite sound. This leads me to the assumption, that it is probably a ("lately") shortened shinto blade, like mentioned before. Uwe

    Interesting pics

Hmmm, reproduction (uzushi) of an kenukigata-tachi Uwe
  14. Well, talked to a more knowledgeable guy today about the subject. He stated that this "system" was indeed still used in the satsuma region during the edo period! Although, there is a controversy to witch purpose?
  15. Me neither.... :? Will try again!
  16. Hello Reggie, do you mean "kaerizuno" ? For the present, I found no special reference that udenuki were particularly used in the satsuma region. All I can contribute is, that the use of udenuki decline during the edo-period and the udenuki-ana "mutated" to ornaments on tsuba. Just my two cents...... Uwe
  17. It's too bad Justin :? I'll be there, of course Have a nice trip, anyhow :D Uwe

  21. Hi Ken, I`m afraid I`m with Lance. Almost sure that it isn`t an Ezo-koshirae The name Ezo-koshirae arisen in the Meji-period and means northern (emishi) mounting. Mostly elaborately decorated with typical carvings of the northern natives. Regards Uwe
  22. Not at all, Piers You will see, the catalogue is great Greetings Uwe
