  1. Hello Miguel and welcome to the forum ! Did you get / request a discount after he sandpapered the sword ? Seriously, for me this would be a deal-breaker. He greatly reduced the sword value in the process. You would be entitled to ask for a discount.
  2. This is very impressive, kudos. I can imagine your joy building such a beauty. Definitely something to be proud of !
  3. Just stumbled upon this PDF: this is the same sword, right ? Edit: no, it's not the same sword, the number of mekugi-ana doesn't match.
  4. The end result is really good, I like it
  5. Do you know this page listing WW2 swordsmiths ? Yours is listed
  6. Charles, where are you located in the US ? There seems to be sword shows multiple times a year (in normal times), I would be surprised that you can't attend one.
  7. Oh wow, this Gassan is absolutely stunning Thanks for sharing this beauty !
  8. Because the sentence ends with "related to the passage of time", I think the person meant "wear". Or maybe "ware" ?
  9. If this page is trustworthy, the kamon on the menuki is from the Asano family.
  10. Have you considered buying directly from Japan (via Buyee / Jauce) ? Here's the search url for katana-kake (that another NMB member (maybe Curran) gave a while ago and that I bookmarked): https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/search/search?p=刀掛け&va=刀掛け&exflg=1&b=1&n=100&s1=bids&o1=a&mode=1 You'll see tons of nice things. I once bought a katanakake from a french seller only to discover a week later than tons of similar (or better !) items were on sale for less money on Yahoo auctions. I think you should find what you want if you're patient enough. Here's one I bought for about 100 euros via Buyee.
  11. This doesn't look like a regular Komonjo mei to me: yours looks way more "cursive" Here's an example from a Komonjo's sword currently being auctioned.
  12. Are you able to bid on those items ? I couldn't as per seller restrictions

  14. You're describing a "nioi-gire": please check the definition on this page. This is considered a fatal flaw because it introduces a structural weakness in the sword, especially in the mono-uchi area (the first third of the sword used for slashing). From Sesko's Encyclopedia of Japanese Swords:
  15. The hamachi tells me that this sword is far from its end of life.
  16. Unless I'm mistaken, the "flower on the tsuka" is a dragon menuki
  17. Nice sanbonsugi Any picture of the hada ?
  18. Thanks for sharing the video. Just noticed that there is a second part here:
  19. I think so (her FB page has reportedly more items), look at the latest picture in this thread (that I posted), you'll see her business card with more info to contact her.
  20. I got mine today and I second that Tomoko's service is really top notch. Those bags are just excellent, thanks Greg for the tip
  21. Here's a blade from 1974, just stumbled upon it by chance. https://www.samuraishokai.jp/sword/20163.html
