  1. There were quite a few different pistols available for officers to purchase and carry beyond the Nambu, the smaller calibre semi autos like the 1903 were a popular choice.
  2. Great example Tom, especially with the rare retention cord.
  3. What is your idea of a well made sword?
  4. Looks to have been done post war.
  5. Agree with Ken, an easy to navigate home page is vital. More pictures along with Oshigata would be just fantastic with your posts.
  6. Can you post the original listing?
  7. If someone could compile all the knowledge, rare examples and information on this forum section it would be one of the best Military Sword books available.
  8. The photos are still poor but the blade looks well made and in decent condition. If the price is low I would go for it.
  9. Annoying because some of the Shin & Kai Gunto he has would be nice if not for the fake Yasukuni/Minatogawa/Koa Isshin Mei.
  10. "Musashi" is a great read.
  11. We all appreciate and treasure your knowledge, keep it up!
  12. Saw this on Paul Martins page, there were no pictures of the sword so doubly pleased to find out you are the lucky owner. Can we get some more pictures of that Ayasugi?
  13. Wow Jussi, incredible effort! Thank you for this.
  14. The lack of stamps gives it a better chance of being traditionally made.
  15. I have swords with all matching and numbered Seppa of 2, 4 & 8.
  16. Hit by shrapnel is my guess. Spiderweb rust can also be caused by blood.
  17. The one one ebay from a certain seller without Koshirae or Shirasaya are quality fakes made in china.
  18. Wow, great Field Grade Kyu Gunto you have there, is there an old blade residing inside? The tassel is an early war one for the Shin Gunto, there's a good example of one at 22 inches here on Dougs site: http://www.guntoartswords.com/010439.html
  19. 1,250 would be reasonable, I think it will sell fast and along with it your family history! Fraud protection would be available through PayPal.
  20. With that unusual latch you could expect over $1500. Honestly best to hang onto to it and look at getting the blade restored.
  21. I would leave it alone, it has survived this long without being reduced to dust!
  22. Yes it could possibly restored by a professional polisher but it would be expensive. Considering it's a family heirloom it would be a wise investment for future generations.
  23. Great example on ebay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WW2-Japanese-OFFICERS-SWORD-WITH-SCABBARD-SIGNED-KOA-ISSHIN-DATED-GENDITO-MINTY/401690194846?hash=item5d8699f39e:g:y6EAAOSwkjJcQ5a4:rk:4:pf:0
  24. Yes, it is a old sword probably 350+ years old remounted in fairly typical Type 98 Shin Gunto Koshirae. Old swords like these were quite popular and were either sourced from large sword appeals or direct from the family themselves. It appears that your example has a rare and unusual secondary retention latch release on the scabbard throat, can you confirm if this can be pushed in to release the small latch coming through the sword guard?
  25. A good looking sword regardless but one highly doubts it's a Kotetsu.
