  1. Hi Yurie I did two books on tsuba and I know a lot less than you! Grev
  2. This is a nice tsuba It took me nearly two years to find a Namban tsuba with no hitsu ana I was outbid on one then recently I found another and as a bonus is was 'kinko' So in my opinion a rare type but maybe others disagree
  3. I'm a bit dubious when I see that whit colour showing through
  4. I would prefer some more images Need to see various aspects of the blade which I can't do from the single image
  5. How many of use will be trying Barrys tip?
  6. I should have added the table of votes so shown below No Totals 1a 6 1b 2 3 5 4a 2 4b 2 5 1 6 Sell 7 1 8 3 9 2 10 Sell 11 1 12 0 13 3 14 1 15 1 16 0 17 0 18 0 19 4 20 1 21 3 22 2
  7. I said this was just for fun but the response has exceeded my expectation and although there are only three tsuba I will move on that is a big step for me. It is very difficult to do this from just images so again many thanks Review 1a = Size 80 x 80 x 4.8 = 6 votes 1b = Size 75 x 73 x 5.3 = 2 votes I would have thought these two should be kept as a possible Daisho and would have expected them to have similar votes 3 = Size 83 x 84 x 4.9 = 5 votes Thanks to Curran I will take out 4a & 4b as not being Shoami Number 10 I like monkeys so although it is not the best example I will keep it Number 12 – I like the stylised clouds and waves so a keeper Number 15 What you don’t see is a very nice dragon carved around the mimi which is rare so a keeper Number 18 – Just a sucker for the stylised clouds I like to keep tsuba that are papered as good reference material. Also signed tsuba Number 16 – Has papers so a keeper Number 20 - Has papers so a keeper Number 6 With a recorded mei (in the Haynes Index) To move on Number 5 – Move on Number 11 – This is the one I was going to sell Number 17 – Move on I’d like to do the same exercise with my Bushu, ko Kinko, Tosho and the ‘unknown’ schools It all depends if the members find this a boring exercise
  8. Hi Bazza It may be Robert Haynes He had hundreds and after discussions with a tosogu expert only had a few left Grev
  9. Thanks for the replies as it does help me to looking at the tsuba in more detail With thanks Grev
  10. Hi I'd like to here your views on the attached PDF file It is all about what to keep and what to move on What should be interesting is what style different people like and to see is there is a consensus of the best example Shoami tsuba.pdf Grev
  11. Hi Ben A repro but I hope it did not cost you too much but the overall design is quite pleasing Like David I also have tsuba for sale and we both would guarantee the description and you take the guessing out of whether is is a honest tsuba or a reproduction https://www.dropbox.com/s/qj7d66vvq1a7z16/NMB%20listing.pdf?dl=0 Grev
  12. Hi Jeremiah I was told that the kanji is expressing the 乃 "NO" sukashi & a monkey. I never really found the whole meaning Grev
  13. Is the top sukashi a sandbar? I forget the correct term I also expect the lower one to be astrological Patrick has given some good indicators so now someone who is better with old iron

At the moment all you see are my keepers In had a couple in my for sale listing them put them back into my keepers! It is hard as some I like are good examples and other would not interest other collectors but I like them I think it will be added to but much more slowly

I've heard the point of view about display less and see more Every morning I check the computer which is adjascent to the cabinets so I look at them every day which is what I prefer Also If I want to do a bit of research work on say the Choshu tsuba I can just remove the whole tray Horses for courses
  16. Hello Joe All I can say is that I wish you the best for the future Grev

I had a problem as I only have room for two display cases. Better half said one wall is enough I ran out of space so all the tsuba with boxes went back into their boxes (I prefer to be able to see them on an open display but needs must) There have been a couple of posts of labelling so I pinched the ideas and after a few day they have been labelled and re-ordered The image quality is not good as it is more about the display and labelling than the tsuba images I wondered why I added this post and sadly I only have one or two people a year who have viewed this collection - I'm so sad! Anyway these are the images Cabinets: Tsuba labels: Boxed: Grev Central UK

  19. Hi I have had two identical tsuba to yours Heianjo circa 1500 76 x 76 x 4mm
  20. I use stroke counting kanji with an error of ±1 strokes with Greys kanji cards Then if that doesn't work I use the Jisho website
  21. Hi Zach I have one in my collection just as an example but I have seen some very nice intricate examples but too much for me Yours is a very nice example as often some of the wires are missing and the two colours have retain their colour A good pick for first tsuba Grev
