  2. Hi Tim, welcome from a fellow smith.
  3. And that is the difference between craftsmen and hacks.
  4. I do not see an acid polish, as "legit" use of acid is to whiten a weak hamon. This hamon is strong on its own, but the polish has no tbeen taken to a high state, no burnishing, etc. Maybe not an award winner, but a legit sword, that depending on the price, could have made the buyer happy......he doesn't sound happy now, though.
  5. Probably going to need more/better pictures to say anything useful.
  6. What is that yellow crap? Uchigumori are not yellow.......
  7. Cool, i like it!
  8. Some of those swords show amazing workmanship despite the conditions they were made under. Nice find, Peter, thanks!
  9. And that company hired her........
  10. IF welded, it could be TIG work; I have a junk blade of mine that had a crack in the ha, which I TIG welded as an experiment, and it yielded a similar difference in coloration.
  11. Buy it as a gift for the perfect horse's ass.
  12. I am assuming that the two photos are showing the same tsuka......it appears that the area nearest the tsuba is rayskin, followed by sharkskin, and ending in rayskin again. Doesn't seem like top quality work. As far as i know, the purpose of the underlayment is to secure the wrapping in place, as there are little teeth-like structures on the skins that grip the lacing.
  13. Memory is telling me that was the mark for the royal Thai armory, who imported the swords from Japan.
  14. if it is not made in Japan, the best that can be said of it is that it is inspired by Japanese design ethics. Some smiths are more successful than others in this regard; apparently the Chinese are coming full circle by making swords that are difficult to tell from Japanese made ones. Sword technology came from the Asian mainland prior to 1000 a.d. ; Americans used to make the best televisions........
  15. Sorry to say, that will NOT buff right out....what is the mei?
  16. As Ken says, it would be nice to see the rest of it; the machi do not appear to line up, and the file marks are crude near the transition to the blade.....it could be authentic but tampered with.
  17. Y'all DO realize polishers use rocks to polish, right?
  18. Kunisada?
  19. Very nice indeed!
  20. komonjo is following the seller, interesting.
  21. If Wile E. Coyote was a dragon..........
  22. I am kind of a simple guy; i don't set a max bid higher than i would be willing to pay to purchase outright.....if I get it for less, i am happy. I do get out bid for some things i would like, but if i can't live without it, I just buy it.
  23. Smiths use the oroshigane process to reconsolidate and increase the carbon levels in materials such as old temple nails and similar materials.
