  3. Hi, The Mei says 吉明作 (Yoshiaki saku). Maybe this sword was made in late Edo period. He was Gassan school.
  4. Genhan(厳藩)(厳原藩: Izuhara clan) was the clan name of the Tsushima clan in the only very early Meiji era. The mei is 直行(Naoyuki).

  8. Hi, 浅井良云ハ魚類名人也良寛門人江戸四谷住 享和年間仁 Asai Ryoun was a master of fish carving. He was a disciple of Ryokan and lived in Yotsuya,Edo. Kyowa period artist.
  9. A kanji carved on the gun stock is 龜 (turtle). In Japan, turtles are considered auspicious animals.

  13. Hi, you are correct. It is correct to read as Sekiran. Therefore, the signature is 石巒 (Sekiran), not 石戀 (Sekiren).

  16. I'm so excited to see this sword. Because I knew from an old book that he made a few swords by that Sasagaki method. That inscription(Sasagaki forging method .... ) and his signature on his sword are very valuable. Please preserve that sword carefully.
  17. Hi, It's a great discovery !!!! 果以笹搔鍛作之   (Shibata) Ka made this using the Sasagaki forging method. I think, the swords made using this forging method(sasagaki forging method) are very rare and valuable. The cross section of this sword is shown in the photo below.
