  1. Not just for sale. There are also many important items out on display. And the NBTHK lectures are extraordinary. This year was early original koshirae. But there were a couple of blades. One tanto from around the 7th century. You could see some muneyaki in it. Astounding.
  2. It looks like there is plenty of activity to me. Can you name what you're seeing? Maybe start there. I think it's a good idea to attend shows and look at lots of swords.
  3. Looks awesome !
  4. I agree that fujishiro oil seems best for Nihonto.
  5. I think you chose well, of the two you mentioned. You'll have a decent, papered katana. When you go to sell, it will be easier than selling a later period wakazashi. Enjoy your sword.

I'm glad that you seem so far to have had good luck. I'm just saying that you don't and really won't truly know until the blades are restored. And once you've paid all restoration and papering costs. So you really don't know how well you've done. And you'll have to wait to truly study your swords. You'll see in told details once they are polished.

You are giving advice when you don't really know how well or poorly you've done. Neither sword is restored or papered. I'm not trying to be combative just pointing that out.
  8. Hey, I have some stuff for you that you might like. And for what you will consider grate deals. Well start with with my Colorado beach-house
  9. I'm also in Colorado. If you guys get together or ever want to study, please let me know.
  10. You haven't done badly. You have a nice sword to study and research and when you're done you can send to one of the shinsas that happens in the us. This won't be cost prohibitive and will probably add a small value to the blade, so long as it isn't gimei. Enjoy and study the ham on closely.
  11. That's a pretty awesome result. Congrats.
  12. What's he asking?
  13. I too think it's oil quenched. Depends on what you mean entry level. I would think you'd want to appreciate the finer details, but if you want a WWII sword it's not a bad deal probably. You could resell for that. A little more will get you into a real nihonto though.
  14. Hisakuni Kanemitsu Ichimonji-TH Ichimonji-79 Tegai, 60s papers Tegai 80s papers.
  15. I'd like to look at it in hand.
  16. It takes away more metal during polish to remove every single nail catcher. you can still enjoy it as is. Personally I wouldn't worry about it.
  17. Thank you both for sharing these beautiful pieces.
  18. Pietro, Have you attended a DTI? I am just curious.

Thanks for updating the results. It's interesting it was attributed to different smiths especially that far apart.
  20. Phil, We've all made mistakes when beginning collecting. If you're interested in nihonto then maybe buy a couple books and study the faq here about fakes. You might consider buying either from a dealer or someone here. Many good swords get sold here at very reasonable prices. You might also look at some dealer sites from links here too to get some ideas of prices. Don't let a mistake hold you back though. We all made one starting out. You learned from it. In this pursuit even learning costs something. So take it in stride man. When you do buy your first authentic nihonto I'd suggest buying one in good polish. Not a fixer upper. Polish is expensive and can be risky. Anyway I hope this helps you. These swords are very interesting. Try not to get discouraged by this experience.
  21. Thanks Joe. I too can read it much better. What a sword huh! Soshu swords are just amazing.
  22. You're speaking about value to you, and I'm talking about the sword market. Juyo swords sell for more than TH. I realize there is an exception somewhere. Like a healthy Nagamitsu with only TH would obviously possibly go for more than Juyo by a lower ranked smith. But the same blade with Juyo papers will sell for more than it did with TH.
  23. You might want to Look at good swords. You'll learn a lot more. There is a one in million chance you might find something good for cheap. But you'll probably get 999,999 Pieces of s**t in the meantime.
