raiden Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 To All, A short version of important news: The NBTHK has had their license renewed by the Bunkacho as before, as well as the result of the investigation of the 403 swords that were found without torokusho. According to the prosecutors office, the NBTHK and all involved have been exonerated of all charges. Contrary to the rumors that Mr. Tanobe, Mr. Kobayashi and Mr Iwata were arrested, and that the NBTHK will close next month , Mr Tanobe, Mr Kobayashi and Mr Iwata were NEVER arrested, neither was anyone else from the NBTHK arrested. The NBTHK will remian open as well, and the Tokubetsu Juyo Shinsa will be on schedule as usual. Further news will follow soon, and this news will be published in the next months issue of Token Bijutsu in both English and Japanese. More to follow when I have time this week. paulb Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Dear Mike, thank you very much for the update. Let's hope that the negative rumour mongering which has plagued this organisation in recent times will finally be stopped. Best Regards Paul Quote

raiden Posted March 13, 2012 Author Report Posted March 13, 2012 Here is the printed info for the "Zaidan Houjin" or license for foundation. Quote
cabowen Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Haven't they always been a 財団法人 ZAIDANHOUJIN (foundation)? This is different from a non-profit (非営利組織 HIEIRISOSHIKI)... Quote
raiden Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 Chris Bowen, Yes they have always been such a foundation, but this type is a new formaltype and supposedly better than before. I posted this bit of news as there was a rumor that the NBTHK had lost this status. Just trying to set the record straight as there have been too many rumors recently. As you must know by now, contrary to what you posted, no one was prosecuted in accordance to the prosecuting attourneys findings. I hope that you will revise this bit of news if you have mistakenly posted it elsewhere. Mike Yamasaki Quote
raiden Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 Chris, By the way, i am not so good at Japanese legislation stuff, i just post news that i know is from a reliable source. I really rather spend my time on this board posting educational items. Mike Quote

I just posted a newspaper article that said they had papers issued, which in Japan is like being arrested. I assume the newspaper was a reliable source. There is a difference between being arrested and being prosecuted. You say above they were not arrested, then you say "they were exonerated of all charges"....You can't be exonerated if you were never charged, and you can't be charged until you are arrested. What is the current status with the three gentleman and the NBTHK? Quote
raiden Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 Chris Bowen, Forgive my poor use of words, I am not so good at politics as you are, I tend to deal more with the items of nihonto, as far as I know it was explained to me that the old system of Zaidan Houjin was changed a few years ago (but I am sure that you knew this) and the government made the granting of the title more strict and difficult to achieve. Now instead of only the Bunkacho helping the granted foundation, now a portion of the government called (forgive the spelling) Naikakufu also will aid the foundation as well. That is why it is supposed to be better to receive this grant of Zaidan Houjin. But,if you really want to know or you may call the NBTHK at 03-3379-1386, ask for Mr. Hinohara so there will be no mistake as to the exact explanation. For me it doesn't really matter, I just want to see the rumor mill put to rest and get back to the interesting things of the nihonto world. I really believe all of this doesn't help any of the nihonto world, and I really am not interested in politics at all. However, if at any time you would like to have a serious conversation with me about nihonto or kodogu, I will be glad to accommodate you - I will be at the Midwest Token Kai next month..... As far as the 3 gentlemen , I have heard that Iwata sensei is still retired as he is a bit ill, and Tanobe Sensei and Kobayashi sensei are also in retirement as well. I guess what I meant to say is that no one was arrested from the NBTHK, if you have proof otherwise, please post it here. Mike Quote
raiden Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 Chris Bowen, Oh I forgot to ask, hasn't your group tried to apply for this Zaidan Houjin? mike Quote
David Flynn Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Reading between the lines, it sounds like the three have (excuse the pun) Fallen on their swords. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Hi guys, I wonder if I'm not the only one here who'd rather not read between the lines. No one was arrested, the rumors can be put to rest; can't we all just agree that's good news, good enough, and get back to Nihonto? Please. Grey Quote

I was there and spoke to most of them a couple of hours ago. However, there has been several earthquakes here in Tokyo between 18:00 and 21:00 local time. So If the buliding still stands, I do not know. The hotel is shifting from side to side and the walls are screaming in cracking sounds as i write this. /Martin Quote
Toryu2020 Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Martin - Stay safe my man! NHK news is showing all the crews checking out the reactors in Chiba. A few cracks in your hotel are one thing, lets pray there are no cracks in your power plant! -t Quote

As I said, I posted a newspaper article here that said papers had been issued by the prosecutor's office for several former NBTHK officers. I was reporting news, just as you have done, not spreading rumor. You can find it with a quick search of this forum if you wish. The NTHK-NPO applied for, and received, status as a 非営利組織 HIEIRISOSHIKI which is a non-profit organization. They receive no financial assistance from any government agency. Back to swords? Quote
raiden Posted March 14, 2012 Author Report Posted March 14, 2012 Ok, Back to swords, or in my case this week, back to fittings, swords will be next week! Mike Quote
