Death-Ace Posted March 2, 2020 Report Posted March 2, 2020 I was oiling my sword the other day and for reason, it felt as if it was bending with no pressure. Maybe I'm just imagining things or my hands got too fat and molds onto anything? Haha, what do you all see? Quote
Michaelr Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 Could be just the pictures or maybe just my eyes but to me it looks a little “ wavey “ in more than one spot. Hope it is just trick photography and all is good. MikeR Quote
PietroParis Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 In the first, second and last picture the shadow of the blade can trick the eye. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 Seems to have had some bends removed by a Togishi, tough to tell in photos. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 Not sure if it's bent, as much as off-axis. Quote
Death-Ace Posted March 3, 2020 Author Report Posted March 3, 2020 Not sure if it's bent, as much as off-axis. Hey Ken! I'll take more pictures later off work, but agreed. It was hard tonfind a good photo. I meant to take photo with the tsuka off to have a good flat area to start the photography. Thanks guys! Thankfully, although the blade is tired, I see no signs of shinae, but is not always a thing and we know minornones have a possibility of being removed during polish. Quote
vajo Posted March 3, 2020 Report Posted March 3, 2020 Hi Lev i would not worry about it. It looks good as it is. Quote
Death-Ace Posted March 3, 2020 Author Report Posted March 3, 2020 Thanks guys! Think my eyes are just terrible lol. Quote
lambo35 Posted March 4, 2020 Report Posted March 4, 2020 Take all the parts off the blade, place the blade on a glass table top, slide different thickness cardboard/paper strips under the blade. You should be able determine any variation in blade straightness this way. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 4, 2020 Report Posted March 4, 2020 Corrected bend near the Monouchi, most of my older blades in Gunto mounts have a similar corrected bend. Bamboo, Tatami, people.....anything could've caused it after 400 years. 2 Quote
jeremy Posted March 6, 2020 Report Posted March 6, 2020 My shinsakuto has a similar "bend " after a decade of use. No problem with it cutting and sheathing. 1 Quote
