kissakai Posted December 16, 2019 Report Posted December 16, 2019 My first and possibly last shinsa sword submission has passed and I can't tell you how much this was a relief for me It passed on Saturday so as yet there are no other details It is signed Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro and was walked through by Paul Martin (who else) I only own only three swords but now all have papers (+ one papered yari) It is not really here for comments it's just that I have to tell someone as I'm so chuffed 14 Quote

Bazza Posted December 16, 2019 Report Posted December 16, 2019 Congratulations Grev. This is a wakizashi, yes?? 'Twould be nice to see pics of overall, kissaki, machi, and mei - not to ask too much!!! BaZZa. Quote
paulb Posted December 16, 2019 Report Posted December 16, 2019 Congratulations Grev, a great result. Enjoy it, there are few better shinto smith's than the early generations of Tadayoshi. Considering he was 19 when his Father died and he took over the business he must have been very talented and determined to achieve what he did. You have an interesting piece of history. Quote
Brian Posted December 16, 2019 Report Posted December 16, 2019 Paul, I still have the one I got from you years ago. 1 Quote
paulb Posted December 16, 2019 Report Posted December 16, 2019 Hi Brian, Glad it went to a good home. When I focussed on Hizen it was one of my favourite swords. The hada, which is a highlight of the nidai was outstanding. As is often the case when trying to buy something new you have to let other pieces go and that was my only reason for parting with it. kissakai Posted December 16, 2019 Author Report Posted December 16, 2019 I have bought (in my opinion) good papered examples I did have around a dozed 'blades' and sold them all except these below For these I buy as good as I can afford but funnily enough with my tsuba I buy good and not so good examples in volume! That is a conundrum Mino - Monjyu Kanehisa 1713 From Mariusz Kolecki May sell this one day School: Sue Seki mumei late Mino work Muromachi From eBay - Sacramento, USA This is my weakest sword and may one day be upgraded Pre polish images Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro Nagasa 50cm - Nanako 13.7cm - Sori 1.2cm From David Stiles via Ray Singer Mumei: Tairyûsai Sôkan but papered to this smith In 1854 he changed his name to Tairyusai Sokan Nagasa 53cm. Nakago 14cm Sori 1.1cm Habaki made by Brian Tschernaga. What is nice about this habaki is that the diagonal lines are aligned with the nakago files lines and I think this is a kamtei point for this makes Tanobe Sensei Sayagaki HIZEN NO KUNI OMI NO DAIJO FUJIWARA TADAHIRO This has an eight ji mei. It has a suguba deki pattern, and moreover, exhibits the true character of Omi Daijo Tadahiro. t has a Hacho of 1 shaku 8 sun 6 bu Heisei Kinoto-Tori Toshi Shiwasu Join (First 10 days of December, The Year of the Cock, 2005) Examined and confirmed by Tansan (Tanobe Michihiro) KAO From James Lawson via (I think) Ray Singer I think the Sokan is stunning and by far my best but maybe that will change when I get the Tadayoshi back Grev 2 Quote
Tom Darling Posted December 17, 2019 Report Posted December 17, 2019 Grev, Truly, a blazing splendor. Congratulations! Tom D. Quote
Ian B3HR2UH Posted December 17, 2019 Report Posted December 17, 2019 Congratulations Grev , this sword illustrates the point that I keep banging on about . Genuine mainline Tadayoshi and Tadahiro pieces have beautifully finished Nakagos and well cut mei . Ian brooks 1 Quote
mywei Posted December 17, 2019 Report Posted December 17, 2019 Nice one! Can't go wrong with a mainline Hizen suguha + konuka hada combo! Quote
