  6. i was more me finding a title to catch peaples eye. i to like the piece, but know nothing of later goto, or any goto. but i would suspect its made to decieve as it dosnt feel like the same quality ov seen from later goto.
  7. show us photos above the mekugi and around the ha-machi area. stamps were required by regulations prior to 1939-40 of the top of my head, but it could be hidden under the habaki "kojima kanemichi was know for this. or its been reomved during war time to pass as a gendai. the smith is only recorded as a showa-to maker but you never know you might have a genadi. to quote david flynn. judge the blade not the mei
  8. ◆ ◇ [Aoi] Former collection of a wealthy merchant, special feature 20 Yokozuna of metalwork at the end of the Edo period! !! "Goto Hobashi Ichijo (Hanaoshi)" Gourd-shaped Oboro Gin-maki Joint Yukihana Bunzu Uchigaeshi Ryogaku Kotsuba (jauce.com)
  9. good spotting john, i retract my comments, clearly on this point im found lacking in education
  10. now im at home at my computer ill be more detailed. this is a full dress sword, not a weapon. so threy had a varity of tassel that would be changed depending on the event or duty they would be attending so the sword is company grade would be from corporal to warrant officer the field grade tassel is for 2nd lieutenant to colonel or have i got it wrong. im doubting mysleft now....
  11. Imho the tassel isnt originally to this sword. Prob a added piece to make it more sellable. If the tassel is original its worth more then the dress sword itself. This is a earlier type 19, as it still sports the prussion influence shown in the rippled koi-guchi on the saya. Also note the tassel would have either more wear or damage to it worn like that as it custom to hav the lanyard knotted around the guard.
  12. ohh john that Generals grade is perrrfect
  13. can this picture be translated and does it offer any help
  14. just to stick my nose in, i too have never truely know the correct Japanese term either. on Jauce i often ses these 2 words in the titles of kyu gunto style knots Masakeno Masatoo
  15. dont be fooled, this is just complete rubbish, nothing points toward being correct. its a crappy, made last week repro. the bull** sales pitch is a give away too if you want to compare Show Us Your High Class Gunto - Page 7 - Military Swords of Japan - Nihonto Message Board (militaria.co.za)
  16. the yokote has been rubbed down too
  17. DHL is no better from my point of view. iv had some tassels sitting at the airport since monday, DHL say it will take to the 26th of this month to receive them. its only a 1.5 hr drive ??? wtf
  18. On that logic, yes i will come to the party. A non Japanese gunto wasn't what i was debating over
  19. the second you can find real photographic proof that these were infact issued to Japanese troop i will change my tune. there were approx 100,000 chinese solders under the control of the IJA, not to mention other smaller countrys. if IT WAS made by another nation whom was under that banner. it still dosnt make it a IJA issied sword. until then i think your all grasping at straws. and FYI, a fellow collecter of mine has one. i studied it in hand "have you dont this " ?, there junk. to call them late was in rough to the poorly made late war swords.
  20. i mis typed, sorry guys ITS NOT Japanese
  21. its not a gunto, and its not ground breaking, and its Japanese.
  22. didnt read much so i might be stated. biiiig fake. the listed examples of mei are both kotani yasunori and kajiyama yasunori. ones a founder with differant nakago shape, the other is a student of his. approx 2 years between them
