  1. Shannon H, Didn't you have an outstanding early Bizen Katana or tachi? You had it at the Florida show some years back, do you still have it? The name escapes me? Tom D.
  2. "It is on Ebay." WOW, thought I'd mention it. Tom D.
  3. What is the length. Very early blade? Tom D.
  4. Hi all, it was simply a rhetorical question. To infer reason by deduction. I would imagine it being the case, or true or probable. Let me know after sever years. Just image if you had two of them. A Masamune and Mitsutada, let me know in three and half years. As described in the August 1966 issue of Saga. Remember, every time you take it out and put it (saya?) in, it becomes a serious problem, that you'll never get over, should something go awry. Does anybody really want to own one? Peace. Tom D.
  5. Go live with a Kokuho for seven years, and if you come back sane, let me know? A friend of mine, made me the same offer with his wife. i told him if I had to make a choice, I'd shoot myself! Tom D.
  6. Really, pic. now, from a museum of items you'd like to own, what a waste of space. A total overkill, if we all did that! I guess you can do what you want, but , just take it easy on showing pictures of items you don't have. Thank you. Peace. Tom D.
  7. I wouldn't at all be surprised that future regimes of experts, will invalidate them again. Life is like a box of chocolates. Good luck. Peace. Tom D.
  8. The main enjoyment of collecting Nihonto is in the hunt. After catching them ( monsters) is a great rush in owning them for awhile. The whales are returned to the ocean from which they came, is very satisfying. Go fishing have a good time dreaming what you might catch. The little fish take home. Owning a whale is an over-whelming status symbol that is not necessary to be happy, with, what you caught. TJ and kokuho are whales, is a great responsibility. Good luck. Tom D.
  9. I agree with Krill it is shinto , and is gimei to appear older. Tom D.
  10. Chi Fan, Simple, you really don't know, which Masanaga it is, even with papers! Tom D.
  11. All excellent points. Maybe Doctored? IMHO. Peace. Tom D.
  12. Really, this is a hamon? I must be going blind! This is getting serious, am I missing something that is called a hamon? Whatever, good luck. TomD.
  13. We all started off studying swords, with no knowledge at all, it is a reasonable (good) eye opener for you to make wiser choices in the future. Condition, condition is most important. Good Luck. Tom D.
  14. Steve, I couldn't of said it better. "Ho-hum-hum." Tom D. I
  15. Michael, If you need another apprentice, I am available after the pandemonium subsides, sometime after the elections. But, not on Japanese swords. You have some very nice blades. Tom D.
  16. The shinogi longs Yamato to me? Tom D.
  17. Steve, you have a catch 22 situation. Having a window open on the blade, whether one side or both, doesn't tell you everything. This could be a serious mistake, either way. If it turns out looking good, doesn't guarantee it has no flaws. If it turns out terrible, you'd wouldn't be able to get a fair offer, as , less buyers would show any interest. Pitching it the way it is, would guarantee a better outcome. Good luck. Peace. Tom D.
  18. Could simply be a conflict of interest, on a faulted , consignee transaction. Which, will eventually be worked out, I hope. Peace. Tom D.
  19. There is nothing wrong with your eyes. Tom D.
  20. For example, knowing the quality of the blade, takes a long period of time ( hundreds of blades) to reasonably understand, what you have in hand, with two good eyes and proper lighting. When this is accomplished you'll be near knowing half as much of what you don't know. Some collectors, can take a blade out of the scabbard five to ten inches (only) to determine if it's worth further study. Good luck. Happy Trail's. Peace. Tom D.
  21. This package is a real shiner that would go big in Harlem. IMHO. Tom D.
  22. Did you here of the guy that woke up in the morning, he went to the washroom and looked in the mirror, finding an ice-pick in his head. He had removed in the hospital, making out a police report. The guilty party, you guess it was his loving wife. He wouldn't press charges, as he was still in love with her, and went home to his devoted wife. What a guy. Amen. Tom D.
  23. Mune-machi & Ha-machi are not in line. Tom D.
  24. I would be concerned an attribution (mumei) on a low ranked smith to be fine. As it very well could be re-submitted to high rated smith, which has been the case. Tom D.
