  6. Ken I think it has to do with lateral stability. In the longer version I belive it becomes a problem. That is why I think even the katana we do see are on the shorter side... -t

  9. So jealous that I cannot be there - did anyone mention; The NTHK will host a Tokubetsu kansho-kai on the 20th from 1 until 4, which is also the last day of the DTI. The site is the TKP Shin-Bashi Shiodome Business Center, 4-24-8 Shin-Bashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. It is a short walk from Shin-Bashi station.

  12. For November we will look at wazamono, tameshi-giri and tameshi-mei. Swords of cutting ability, testing of swords and cutting test attributions. Famous blades make their reputations on their cutting ability, let us see how sharp you all are. Look over the attached list and see do you have a wazamono in your closet? Bring in your sword, lets all learn what a cutter is and dont forget we have a nice kantei-to lined up for this month as well.

Howard the default here is to help folks find their own answers, and we're a bit thick at times, so it helps if you state outright that you want the translation and not a lesson in code breaking. No one is offended. Keep in mind email does not show our smiling faces. Fushimi Monjushiro Kanemori is a Yamato smith, there are several generations. If authentic this is most likely by one of the late generations, late Edo. Im sure there is info on this smith online... -t

Thomas - first off better pictures are in order from what i can see this was dedicated to a shrine 奉献する it also notes "offering" 奉納 the date of dedication is 1848 嘉永元 戊申 the month is not clear the rest would seem to be the name of the man making the dedication there may be info on the sword but without better pictures I cannot say. im sure someone will help solve the rest of your mystery, -t

  24. Watched the whole thing today, the subtitles flash by a little too quick in places but otherwise great photography and detailed explanations of each stage in the production of a sword, shirasaya and full koshirae. 110 minutes and a bargain to boot. -t
