I think its the tool of a Japanese bamboo artist like in this video at minute 12:00. If u are in Samurai class and u love working with bamboo why not make a nice koshirae to show ur status.

Kambun Shinto why the distain?
Tanuki Yokai replied to Babu's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
The people say this because the typical kanbun shape is the shape of a shortend tachi from earlier times. So they expect a koto piece and end up with shinto after further study. -

Yahoo blade. Who made it? What significance?
Tanuki Yokai replied to Chishiki's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I would say it was sold unfinished without polish and for unknown reason never saw a polisher. And if he found a flaw and stoped the work because of this i think it wouldnt be signed. -

Read this http://www.ksky.ne.jp/~sumie99/katanainfight.html I think your tsuba saw some battle. Sorry i have edited the post And a blade even with not much niku will get dull on impact and leaves a bigger scar. Nihonto have Niku unlike kitchen knifes. I made a little picture for a shinogi zukuri example

Green paper = no paper exists only in your heads. Everyone is free to have an own opinion. I Wonder do you guys burn green papers ? And if not, why?

Ofc you can restore it yourself but it will take many years of hard training and will you make spend more money then the blade is worth. How to restore is not a question that could be answered in an online forum thread. How to clean and stabilize https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tVnI8-Ml_Y. There are different opinions on the use of uchiko...

Translation help with tachi/katana?
Tanuki Yokai replied to Geoffry Persoon's topic in Translation Assistance
It cost you only the value of the Blade -
I think the blades crafted for the military must fulfill specific conditions and how the mei has to look was also given. But im no expert and the smiths had some freedom in many things.
-
From usagiya Signature "Bishu Osafune ??". The smith name is difficult to read. Some person read it to "Yorimitsu". I would be interested in your opinions.
-
I think its about the nakago size compared to nagasa. Also i think its more intention of the smith what a blade is and not more or less then 60.6cm. I think some titled by dealers 59cm nagasa wakizashi are real Katana.
-
Sorry i cant help but can we see the other side of the Nakago

Tanuki Yokai replied to Tom Darling's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
It could be ww2 souvenir. Just sell it. The things you own end up owning you. -
1990 is calling the dataspace is too expensive... Back to topic i would love to see koto blades in their condition back in the time right after they were finished.
