    I thought it woudnt sell for that price. But i also saw chinese replica katana on ebay who sold for 19k$ I think it hits many kantei points for muramasa but im not an expert and the nakago rust is ugly.

    Nice but Ono Yoshimitsu adds the additional mekugiana what makes it a better utsushi, im joking. Really nice blade. Someone know about Kiyomaro utsushi better then the akamatsu taro ?

    Try fitting it before u glue it again to check if there is a Problem. Maybe u will have to wait untill the Wood gets more dry ? Like Steve said u can hold the Tsuka above boiling water and the hot steam will losen the glue.

    I think people see pictures like this on wikipedia and chinese "katana" dealer sides and take it for real. I dont think there is any proof that this are common Japanese "lamination" techniques.

    I think owning a nihonto can raise ur interest but maybe you will find out that you prefer other things in blades when you know more. The books say for the first blade u should get a decent study piece in good polish with genuine signature from reputable dealer. Sato Kanzan said that the best bargain are those bought for a reasonable price from a reputable dealer.

    Jean i want to point out that there is no clay or forging style like honsanmai are necessary to produce differentially hardned blades by hadaka-yaki. This technique is maybe the oldest way to create a hamon, many Ichimonji choji-midare hamon and Aoe saka-choji hamon are thought to have been made using hadaka-yaki.

    When i saw it on ebay i thought it was the upper part of a hira zukuri wakizashi o-suriage. Edit: i also think i can see mizukage on the fourth picture Stefano posted.

    Some time ago i had read that shinsakuto nakago should be oiled but im not sure what effect this oiling of the black rust will have in centuries. Also when u wipe the first 8cm downwards some of the oil will always get on the nakago. I do this because i wont carry dirt from the habaki or loose rust over the whole blade.

    I was reading http://www.sho-shin.com/sue5.htm this when i run over this (picture 2) and wanna ask if thats really a kantei point and how much "round" it must be ? The first picture is a wakizashi signed "Bishu Osafune Sukesada"
