I say it’s modern and gimei compare with this https://nihontoantiques.com/project/yasukuni-akitomo-fss-681/

You have to show the blades sugata. A picture from a 90degree angle of the Blade without tsuka and the habaki. Even then you can’t be sure... For a „good“ amateur appraisal you better show everything. with that pic only I would say early edo

Happens from time to time on the bidding site its ok 😄 https://sword-auction.com/en/product/3300/as15035-短刀正房/ Im more in love with his "From the Heavens" descriptions when the smith gives an interview about the sword.

clear hamon / hardening on the edge and on both jihada and shinogi
Tanuki Yokai replied to Caracal's topic in Nihonto
I think i read at usagiyas website that choji heads can become tobiyaki after a polish because the big heads are deeper hardned then the lower part. After the polish they get disconnected from the hamon and become tobiyaki. In my opinion that means that a hitatsura blade dont have to lose its "felx" because the hardening could be mainly on surface. Also many blades have a lower carbon content in the core what makes it less likely to harden. I dont think you can say how durable a blade is just by looking at hamon. -
Thanks for your input, so can i assume from the color of the fuchigashira that they are made of some kind of shibuichi ?

Hi, i bought this tsuka because of the menuki. It was advertised as an edo piece. Im not very experienced with fittings and wonder if i spend my money well. It wasnt expensive. I will recive it next week. Thanks

Looking at the yasurime i would say edo. And for the shape i would say its unokubi zukuri with hira zukuri base. http://www.ksky.ne.jp/~sumie99/styles.html

Utsuri or not Utsuri whats the question
Tanuki Yokai replied to Foletta's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
The thing you think it is utsuri is just some kind of oxidation in my opinion. To the other question about age i would say its old but a better picture of the nakago would help with the current picture im not even sure if i see 3 or 4 mekugiana. -
Looks ubu to me, what does Tsurota say ?

I would say If Late edo is not correct its early edo. And i think the kissaki is ok. And i wouldnt worry about the tsuka if it has a tight fit.

Wakizashi Identification!
Tanuki Yokai replied to Tokugawa Gord's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
It would be helpfull if you put down that "habaki" but i would say from what i see its a shortend sue bizen blade. I think its a Sukesada 😄 -
I would go for a yokoyama school smith but your pictures show no hada or the boshi so its a wild guess because of the hamon and the tight nioi guchi.
