  1. I'm very curious to see how the Gendai Yoshi Chika goes. By their estimates, the Tachi koshirae must be out of this world.
  2. I had a koshirae made for one of my Gendaito. In hindsight, I regret doing this. The main reason is, the cost. I will never be able to recoup the money spent. I know when one decides to mount a sword, it is done with a strong attachment. However, times and tastes change. Sometimes one needs to sell a sword to help pay for a better one. Yes there are always better ones. Now if I get the chance, I would only mount them as gunto and then only if the Koshirae is cost effective.
  3. A very warm welcome to our newest members.
  4. If it's not a strain on your finances, why not?
  5. Star stamp means the this is a RJT (Rikugun Jumei Tosho) and the sword is an military commissioned Gendaito. The Seki stamp means, the sword has come through the Seki arsenal and is probably non tradionaly made. Lack of stamps, usually means a privately commissioned sword..
  6. Wow comparing all on two swords! I personally don't care where a sword is made, as long as it's good.
  7. Welcome Kunitaro, I hope you find the forum interesting.
  8. Again Chris, I will have to dissagree with you. I have quite a few Seki blades, I would definately say a better than most Yasukuni blades. Saying this though, isn't it all proportional? A good blade, made by any smith, is a good blade.
  9. I actually believe, the decline in memberships, for Sword Socs. is the amount of information available on the internet. This forum is a perfect example.
  10. Well as yet, there has been no reply.
  11. Brian, these don't look like " Expat" swords, they look like high class Chinese copies. We saw an example of these at the Sydney Shinsa, last year. They look Japanese, but just, not quite right.
  12. Well, myself and another member of this board discussed this issue. We both thought it very likely that they were chinese. However, just going by photos. Both of us decided to use discretion and keep it to ourselves.
  13. If people put things up for sale, why shouldn't one be allowed to ask questions and give opinions? Don't we ask our friends opinions?
  14. So sellers should be protected, but not buyers?
  15. I know that ebay is "Fair Game," though surely one must have some integrity when selling on a large scale. Could this just be naivety, on the part of the seller? Here is a wonderful lesson for beginners. This was only picked up by experience looking at many, many swords, over quite a while.
  16. Is it just me, or is there a distinct similarity between these swords? http://www.ebay.com/itm/140835084693?ss ... 1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samura ... 1e71994191 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samura ... 1e71992529 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samura ... 1e7199163e
  17. Stu, the Star Stamp means, it was made by a Rikugun Jumei Tosho, and is a Geandaito.
  18. looks like an oil tempered showato.
  19. Hi Chris, sorry for taking so long to get back. Yes, it's Amazu Masakiyo from Shimane. I was unable to find what you had previously written, so any information, would be appreciated.
  20. I'm trying to find information, of the Gendai Smith, Masakiyo. A friend of mine showed me a sword by Masakiyo and asked my opinion. I personally thought it quite a good sword. However, neither of us, have been able to find anything, on him. If anyone could help, it would be most appreciated.
  21. I'm principally a Gendai Collector. I don't care which school they come from, as long as they are well made. I also have a couple of Shin Shinto pieces which are very good ( they virtually fell into my lap). My criteria is, 1. Value. Is the sword worth the asking price ( This, unfortunately only comes with experience)? 2. Do I like it? 3. Am I able to live with it, as it is? 4. Almost forgot this one. Is it Gimei. Yes there are definitely Gimei Gendaito.
  22. Brian, this sword has faults. These faults may and probably will become worse, with a polish. Next, have the Mei (signature) fully checked out, to make sure it is Genuine. As you like this sword, leave it as it is for a while, whilst you are on your learning curb. With more Knowledge, you may eventually change your mind and save some money.
